- Agree. The rest of the Jam of the Year band was very good, but the drummer (Kirk) didnt help. Everything changed after Blackwell joined.
The NPG 95 was tight AND had personality as a band. Michael and Sonny are my fave rythym section ever. Love Rosie, and Eric added a lot to Prince´s music.
I never liked Bobby Z on drums and Levi as a bass player (preferred him on guitar, although I prefer Prince to be the only guitar player). Didnt like Josh and Cora much too (but they did a very good job on Lotus, I admit). [Edited 7/19/11 12:16pm] |

While I prefer her tone to Shelby's, I wouldn't consider Rosie his best backup singer. After hearing Elisa on backup in Paris last summer I developed a newfound appreciation of just how great she sounds and how talented she is at adding just the right touch to a song without outsinging the lead and staying in perfect harmony. And when she sings solo she's just as good. She has a distinctness to her voice kinda like Jill Jones but 100x better IMO. Liv sounds and sings ok, but in comparison she's more generic. Marva has a great voice, and even better to look at than most of them outside of Jill maybe. Shelby has a beautiful personality and has great charisma and character but if she lacks certain areas of subtlety in her voice that'd do her well on certain songs. The twins were an ok visual distraction (although unnecessary probably) but vocally unimpressive. Tamar sounded great on backup but not as impressive when P gave her lead. Change it one more time.. | |

Mr. Hayes has been with Prince longer than any other member of any incarnation of any band that Prince has had. How you could include this man on the worst list at all is crazy. And the hate that some of you all spew towards Shelby J is just insane. Like she killed your pet puppy or something. Wow. The negativity continues on the Org. | |

The thread is best and worst. Duh. Just because someone has been around for a long time doesn't mean people have to think they are the best. I think Hayes is average for a Prince band member. Which is fine. He does his job, but doesn't stand out. Nothing wrong with that. But some people might consider that a negative since many peole seem to like those that add to Princes overall look, sound and vibe ratehr than just being a competent or even GREAT player. All opinions...that's all they are. |
