The Time Album That Never Was....

The Family were created after The Time broke up, right? This happening has always made me question what The Time's next album [after Ice Cream Castles] would have sound like if they'd stayed together. You could say songs like "High Fashion" & "Mutiny" are definitely in The Time's pocket, but I've always wondered what the rest of the album would have sound like. I can't see Morris Day singing "Screams of Passion", Nothing Compares 2 U", "River Runs Dry", or "Desire" at all [maybe it's just me though... lol ]. I'm not even sure what Prince outtakes from that era would have worked either [100 mph maybe?]. I know the whole story about "Movie Star" supposedly being written for Morris, but I also hear that could be false....

....Your thoughts & hypotheticals [ lol ]?

There are moments on the Mazarati album that sound like a Time album...giving us an idea of what a Time album in 1985 might have sounded like....

"100 MPH"

"She's Just That Kinda Lady"

hmmm

I couldn't picture Morris doing 100mph. His vocal delivery wouldn't match the vibe imo.

I could definitely see Mutiny and High Fashion going for them with a few tweaks here and there.

The Time + Live horns = NO

You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

Regarding Movie Star. From everything I've heard and understood, I think it was written for The Time. Just because they had broken up doesn't mean that songs couldn't have been written with them in mind. Prince generally records the songs that he is passionate about hearing. If he had Movie Star in his head, it doesn't seem out of line for him to record that and along the way feel that it would be perfect for The Time. International Lover was originally written for The Time but it worked out to be a great song to keep as well.

Prince's vaults are littered with half finished projects, unrealized concepts and songs that were written for others and never used. Why would Movie Star be any different?

I think if there was going to be a Time album that was released after ICC, Prince would have written songs a few songs specifically for it, and used a few tracks that were already recorded. A ballad or two, Chocolate, Movie Star and maybe Mutiny or something else.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Don't forget "100MPH" - that has so much of THE TIME's vibe in it that they even drop into the groove of "Cool" towards the end of the song!

Yeah, me too. It's actually a harder sounding version with some harder lyrics, obviously.

There is also an unreleased Time album dating from 1989 called 'Corporate World', some of those tracks are circulating.

groundhog day thread - most of these tracks ended up being re-worked to feature on pandemonium and graffiti bridge. those that didn't - murph drag, 9 lives and corporate world all sound very dated (so do the graffiti bridge tracks....?)

groundhog day thread part 2 - they also recorded the yet unreleased old dogs, new tricks - albeit with the touring line up, not the magnificent seven

i'm just waiting for some new cuts like strawberry lake and stingy. nasty.

Are you serious? An unreleased album from 1997? This I have to hear if its true!!

I wonder if 'Style' is a version of Prince's song from Emancipation.

Are you serious? No this thread, all the other threads on prince.org relating to the said album & all the google search hits have been made up by a THE TIME conspiracy theorist, who has nothing better to do...

I wonder if you can get the internet on computers these days?

My understanding is that there is something like 5-6 unreleased "The Time" albums put together from the 80's up until now. Seriously. Prince produced at least 3 albums that have yet to come out. Morris put together 2. Jam and Lewis were involved with producing something more recently. Hell, now that I think about it, the number could be as high as 8 unreleased albums.

That's cool - i would like to hear them one day! I love The Time - this would explain why they haven't appeared to be on the scene - they just kept all their jams in the vault!

...add to that the jams morris laid down with chuckii booker - old school / i'm coming home / testify.

now there ain't no point all these records sitting around in a recording studio somewhere gathering dust...there is an audience out here for THE TIME...so what are they going to do about it? Time Witness News, my brothers?

I was thinking the same thing....that maybe it's a reworked version of the Emancipation track.
