Interesting song...its quite a hypnotic melody...i've always felt it doesn't actually sound like a 'Time' song even though it is.
Not sure about the female vocals, I would guess Margie Cox just by sound..it could also be Elisa Fiorello? [Edited 7/4/11 13:39pm]

Thanks. All of a sudden I'm really feeling these out-takes and Pandemonium -- holds up more than the Graffiti Bridge album, imo.

Haha, no way. | |

Sorry, besides Joy In Repetition, that shit sounds hella dated.

I agree - in the main Graffiti Bridge sounds very dated - the production on Pandemonium is much tighter.
Prince circa Nude Tour / Graffiti Bridge - The Game Boyz, Tony M et al... not exactly a purple patch. For me quite the opposite until he released Gett Off...that tune rocked.

Corporate World and all the tracks on it are terrible. Just terrible. WTF Prince?

I'm GLAD Pandemonium was released instead of Corporate World.

I almost made an exception for that track, but nahh.... I can't imagine it as a single. I can't imagine it charting in 1989 (or any other year). It's an awful album that would have destroyed the band's image had it come out.

This song was planned as the first single from the album, which was given a November 1989 release date.

It also has the same smell....

Hey I like it, but yeah the rest of the album doesn't measure up to the Time's catalog. It sounds more like Morris's weaker solo material [Edited 7/6/11 11:12am]

I've always felt the same way.

I agree. When I first heard this album, I was like
I cannot imagine Murph Drag on the radio anywhere!!! The hook isn't catchy at all, which I guess is an oxymoron in itself. The Time did a good job incorporating (no pun intended) these tracks into the actual released Pandemonium album. The track Pandemonium shits all over Murph Drag. 9 Lives was just all right. It's actually better than the supposed first single they were planning on going with.
Don't get me wrong, there are some cool tracks on here. The ones that ended up on either Pandemonium or Graffiti Bridge, of course. But other than that, this is why ALL the members of the group need to be involved in their recordings at this point. It may have worked in the early 80s when Prince's funk chops were at their peak, but he was losing his inspiration by this point, in my opinion.
Listening to the album again these days reminds me of what he's doing now with Shelby, Liv, and Elisa and the backing vox. Margie's all over this shit!

I personally like the Corporate World tracks as much as Pandemonium, I think they would have done equally as well.
I think Murph Drag is really funky, love the intro part.

yes I have and its frustrating for us and the band that none of this material has been released yet. Unfortunatily, I can't really comment anymore than that at this point.

stoic resignation in the face of hunger... i like your style
i for one hope they find an avenue to release all their material. to use the words of rakim "it's been a long time"

I haven't kept up with the latest news... Any plans for the original line-up to tour again? Also, what were those cryptic posts prior to Prince's L.A. stint all about anyway?
