Yeah, I think that song musically influenced "When Doves Cry" to some degree. If u listen to the drum patterns, u can hear it a bit. I mean, "When Doves Cry" was recorded soon after Prince saw Dez and The Modernaires perform that song along with some other cuts on night in LA (I think). It's like how Rick James "Give It To Me, Baby" musically influenced Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to some degree. Even Quincy Jones admitted that. [Edited 6/2/11 15:13pm]

Dez has some jams off that album I like such as "She Loves To Video", "I Like The Beat", and of course "Modernaire" to name a few. I need to get it again and sure wish Dez release the extended version of "Modernaire". It does exist!

Interesting to hear how much more of a full-on New Wave sound Dez had in comparison to Prince. I suppose I hear some very vague similarity to "When Doves Cry" by way of the drum machine track, but not much beyond it. [Edited 6/3/11 14:48pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

There is a full size booklet that must be about 50 pages of photos and short essays written by Dez for each track of the 2 CD Retrospective set that this song was released on. It cames with a signed letter of authenticity from Dez. He writes about how this song was recorded before Prince did When Doves Cry and the similarities in the drum loop in both songs. Unlike some of the Prince associates from that era (who will go nameless here), he made a point to claim any writing credits for a Prince hit...
