I think Georgio was doing some major swagger jacking back then with the androgynous image, sexual outrageousness, Georgiobonics and "pok-a-dot" (in lieu of purple ) thing. But aside from the occasional keyboard line that does sound like Prince, I agree Georgio's sound was different. His bread and butter seemed to be clubby dance fare peppered with the stock ballad. He generally stayed away from a funk sound, and he didn't have a Linn drum -- the Prince wannabe hallmark -- plastered all over his stuff. [Edited 6/1/11 5:50am] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Could it be possible that maybe Georgio submitted his demo tape to BrownMark and that BrownMark offered to help him get a record deal? Remember,at an early stage,BrownMark was planning to help Mazarati without even telling Prince about them.He felt that Prince would come along and "take over" the project.

Compete? Are you serious? The guy had talent, but in no way imaginable had what it took to be any kind of a star in the 1980's. That is like telling me that Michael Jordan did not want Dennis Hopson signed back in 1990 for fear of losing playing time. You're telling me that a guy who signed Morris, Jesse, Jimmy, and Terry was scared of Georgio? Please.
It's this kind of thinking that warrants all those blow hards who think Prince is fake and without the usual suspects would never have made it...
Morris Day wrote Partyup....so he's the real brains Mazarati re-booted Kiss...so that proves Prince can't cut it Wendy & Lisa were the reason Prince did so and so Andre Cymone shaped Prince's entire career...Prince was just along for the ride.
Well, other than Wendy & Lisa's mild success, all of the others have vanished in obscurity. All of the above were still more successful than good ol Spongebob Georgio Pants.
I can't deny that they all had at least some minor influence on Prince, but the way some people overhype their involvement is comedy. Kind of like those who think that Sarah Palin should be President, despite her thinking that Paul Revere warned the British about the Beastie Boys attacking Run DMC.

You misunderstood me. I did not mean compete talent wise. I meant compete for the ladies and media attention. P to me has that " I am going to be the top dude on the my lable". I could never have imagined that he would sign another sole male performer to his lable.

then what was Tony LeMans?

The story goes that Tony and Prince did not get along whole Tony's cd was being produced. If Tony had lived who is to say he would have received the promotion and backing to have made it on the Paisley Park lable.

It's ironic how you pulled your own "Palin" with that statement.
