georgio-tapped out I recently got the movie Tapped Out from Netflix. I was curious because Georgio stars in it and it is his movie project. It's an Allenhouse Project.
It was really interesting watching him. He basically looks the same except no glam.His character is a wannabe music producer with questionable ethics. It is strange seeing him slightly limp around and play a dude from the 'hood. There are scenes of him shooting hoops.He kinda looks funny with that wiry body.The lovemaking scenes are ridiculous and made me laugh like the ones in Dolemite. He is also a bit old for his role,but it's just a movie.
This movie is not good by any stretch. However,it is worth checking out as a curiousity. I do give him lots of props for accomplishing putting a movie together and actually getting it released.I can say nothing negative. That is a lot of work and risk. and before anyone says that Georgio isn't an associated artist,it's interesting to note that he almost became a Prince protege.In 1985,his demo tape made its way to Paisley Park Records and Prince was preparing to sign him.In a 1986 Black Beat magazine interview,Georgio explains why it didn't happen.He claims that he was offered a shady deal.
I write and produce my own music,but Prince and BrownMark were gonna take all the credit.Now I understand how Prince's thing works.He finds people who would do anything to become a star.I'm not one of those people.

I remember seeing that article adn I remember the video he made. He looked a lot like Prince at the time.
Today I received this message from JILL JONES and this is what she said about GEORGIO..
" I saw a post about Giorgio... LOL let me make this clear and please inform these misguided people. I don't give a f@ck if they read this in "Black Beat MAgazine" Giorgio was NEVER offered or proposed a deal at PAISLEY. Prince hated him. I mean HATED him. "
She also added this just to clear the air

I find it hard to believe that Prince would sign him or even be interested in him. Prince rarely worked with male proteges. Most of the guys he worked with he'd known from back in the day in MPLS. Raised in Minneapolis, Georgio played a variety of instruments and did everything on his records (producer, arranger, and so on), like Prince - someone he was often compared to ("another clone !"). It is said that in the mid-80's, he managed to give demos to Prince, and that he could have been signed on Paisley Park - but according to him, Prince and Brownmark wanted to use him as a simple singer, and so he rejected the deal (another version of the story is that he simply wanted too much money). Anyway, he financed the recording and release of his first single, the really Prince-like 'Sexappeal', which was finally picked up for release by Motown, allowing him to be signed on the famous label. Then he scored with several housey/funky dance tracks (most notably Tina Cherry and Lover's Lane), and released three albums until the beginning of the 90's, his success slowly diminishing. Perhaps he could have been bigger if it hadn't been for his somewhat hypertrophied and tiring ego, which leaded him to repeatedly claim he was a genius and criticize Michael Jackson and ... lol...someone is obviously lying.I guess we'll never know,but if that picture posted above is any indication,it shows that Georgio had at least some kind of connection to Paisley Park.If he's hanging out in the studio with BrownMark,it's possible that maybe BrownMark got a hold of his demo tape and was planning to produce him? Georgio said that they (Prince and BrownMark) wanted to take all the credit.That sounds consistent with the way Prince operated back then.

Actually Alan Leeds said that P's management signed Good Question along with a few other acts without P involvement. I can see P signing all of the non-talented woman. I really cannot see him running after "Georgio or Mikki Free. Think about why would you sign guys that you would have to compete with.

As much as people want to call him a Prince clone, I disagree. He may have been a light-skinned, long haired, pretty brotha; but his sound screamed Motown. Prince's did NOT. He's smoove as hell and makes me swoon, IDGAF.

The only connection Georgio had with Prince was Brownmark........Even Brownmark blast Georgio years ago on a radio show called Radio Scope with Lee Bailey...........Brownmark called Georgio all kinds of liars and how he had spent ten grand on him and that he taught him everything he knew. | |

Yeah I may have only 30 something post, but I am not new to these Prince sites. I was a member at Housequake for years......If you read my first post, you'd see that.....Another thing, Jill said way more than that, I did'nt post half of what she really said because I know people already hating her because she speaks up.
It just trips me out that a person who was actually there , have way more info on the details than any of us ever will, people have the nerve to get mad and don't wanna hear the truth. They'd rather believe the crap that comes from gossip mags, than a person who was actually there. Jill was there longer than most and have seen most of P's artist come and go, so I believe what she have to say.

It's not that serious
But I will say this: if Georgio had signed with Paisley Park,he would have had only one under-promoted album with no hits...just like Jill Jones and the others.It wasn't a 'real' label,it was just a vanity label that Warners gave to Prince to keep him happy.

I don't know about Georgio but Prince was cool with Mick Free.They jammed together a few times and were seen hanging out at nightclubs in 1986/87.I think Prince respected the fact that Micki could play.He was an awesome guitarist.The story goes that,Prince was writing a movie called 'The Dawn' in which there would be a band called The Coco Boys.He wanted Micki to be a member of this band.Then,in 1991,when Jesse Johnson left The Time,Prince suggested to the guys that they hire Micki. | |
