Facebook comment from Susannah Melvoin re Prince/Fdeluxe situation

Fdeluxe

Hey all our family! It's a name and we are all about the music and playing music. All of us on this band have had careers for a very long time outside of our history with Prince. all we are about is having our creative live's nutritious and soulful . No harm in that. We write and play and perform. Thats what we have to do. Just like Prince and millions of other life long musicians . It's like being a heart surgeon and being asked to stop and be a zoo docent. Fun to be around the animals but couldn't possibly fulfill his kbowledge of the heart. And how all the study and hard work was buried . I'm just saying.. We all should stay focused on the music and how fun we all have together as band mates and family fans !!susannah .

prince not telling them they cant make music he just telling them they cant use his past history or the songs he wrote and if they had all this history be4 him that they claiming they had then it would be fine for them2 do. they keep yelling whats in a name ?? is that is the case use a totally different name all 2gether, people talking shit about prince but they know it was prince group his songs, his productions all that. its not like they are an important group in history they released one cd and broke up soon after, its not like they are the time or something a group that actually meant something more in the history books of music. the family didnt tour or nothing they using this to spin some sells this controversy with prince

Perhaps im being too simplistic in my thinking; but it appears that Fdeluxe are fighting Prince for the right to use creations they contributed to and worked on when they were being managed/supported by Prince..

To me this is the same fight Prince had with WB. Prince wanting the right to use ALL creations he contributed to and worked on whilst he was being managed/supported by WB.

shrug

Actually, they just want to be able to either call their album "The Family" or call themselves "The Family" and Prince is saying "We're divorced, we're not a family anymore."

One thing I admired about Rick James, he gave his blessings to The Mary Jane Girls, The Stone City Band, Val Young, and his other group Process & The Doo Rags to continue to do what they do without going through all this legal mumbo jumbo.........and all of them is out there doing what they do best, performing and keeping Rick's legacy alive......is that so bad PRINCE for you to give your blessings to your former groups and artist to continue to show and pay tribute to you. Hopefully it wont take him to be on his death bed to realize how many wonderful friends or even family members he's run away being so guarded. I dont think any of them is out to hurt them. But then you have other artist outside of your camp like Alisha Keys, Genuwine, and Inaya Day among others recording and performing the songs he's written without all this legal mess. I don't understand !

Oh I see...

I honestly thought that the thinking might be that if Prince agreed to allow them to use the original name

of the band, that would make them one step closer to being able to perform the songs they contributed

to at that time!

they CAN play the old music. wow. Where do you get your information?

So you value music based on how it is seen in history books - instead of whether you like it or not?

They should do whatever they want & let the chips fall where they may. They've said already he doesn't really own a name like 'The Family' or whatever, so why worry about 'keeping the peace.'

He's not being considerate, they don't owe him any sort of consideration in return. It's not like they're good friends or anything anyway.

If they were, then Prince would be speaking to them in person rather than through lawyers.

Somebody should just stop rolling over for him at some point.

Jill, The Time, Rosie Gaines, The Family, all have had him prevent them in some way from doing what they want to, or so they say. So it's time someone just says 'Enough!' already.

the way it seem we going off one sided stories not knowing the whole truth or what the contracts actually state.if prince had no legal leg to stand on seem as if they would just do as they please. its not like they are going to sell millions of records no way or even debut in the top 50 on the charts.they didnt even sell much back in the day.i loved the cd only b/c it was a way to get my hands on more music prince created i dont have any hard feelings towards st paul, suasannah or none of them but i havent paid them no nevermind since there prince years and didnt care and still dont really

I saw ( the blonde ) MAXI BOND of The Mary Jane Girls and she said, Rick loved the idea of them doing thier thing still on stage....He gave them all his blessings...Now Rick is dead and gone and they just joined this funk tour with Lakeside & The Gap Band...Good for the Mary Jane Girls & The Stone City Band.
