A close friend of SUSAN's once told me the reason SUSAN MOONSIE is so mysterious and stay out of the media is because of some gag order he have on her. Scared she will be the one to tell it all.

Dont get me wrong I love Prince's music but one can't deny that something is seriously wrong with dude !

They posted their feelings about it on FB. That's not dealing directly with the source, that's dancing around the issue to stir the source. It's like Biggie vs Tupac syndrome on FB - where rappers beef with one another through their lyrics. Why not deal with the problem up front? Go directly to the source and confront the issue and nip this sh*t in the bud. That's how some of these former bandmates/ex's, etc., should handle things, in a mature manner, not on FB or any other social network, because they're making their private issues with him, public, and that's just a goldmine for fans looking for that sort of thing to gossip and speculate about.

Whatever the situation, they'll all have to find a way to resolve their issues with one another in a mature manner. That's just about it.

It is funny how people call creators control freaks when they are being who they were created to be. Creators were created in God's image who created and declared heaven and earth as being His, and will not hesitate to allow destruction to come when He is not please to prove His point and state His claim. Not judging Prince's pass behaviors in other situations, because I do not want anyone judging mines, but as far as being a creator is concern, I think Prince is right on target. There is nothing wrong with a creator protecting his creation. All Prince is saying, is create your own! Jehovah says the same!

There are only two types of people in the world creators and copycats. ..period!

Do we really beleive Prince would ever sit down with these folks and talk with them let alone except a phone call. Sometimes it's just not that serious to go through the lengths that he does. Yeah FB is not always a way to go, I agree but hopefully one day that can all work out thier issuses and move on .

True, it may be impossible for them, but there's always a possibility it could happen. None of us know the entire story behind the scenes, and only base our opinions on what's been posted by former band associates, which is not enough to draw a definite conclusion, as there's always two sides to a story. So you never know what can come of this in the end, but yes, maybe one day they can all sort out their issues and move on.

I think though, if Fdeluxe, chooses to move on and not further any involvement (legal or not) with their former boss, and if the Fdeluxe or any other former band members, are confident in their music, as well as their skills to create new music, without the need to mention their association with their former employer or any title of any group he owned/managed, then there should be no problem with them getting their music out there. This way they can show their fans who they are individually, as musicians/artists, and their creative, music skills minus their former boss' association.

Example, W&L are doing their own thing musically, through writing music scores for cable/tv programs, which is not associated with their former boss, although they will always be known as two of his former bandmates.

Is it me or is the whole situation pathetic on both sides, were talking about grown a$$ men and women babbling on Facebook!!! & why? because they didnt read their contracts are get worthy lawyers years/decades ago. They need & all the rest of his proteges need to put their $$$ together get a terrific lawyer and go to court, so they can atleast reclaim their youth years. I think its sad they cant discuss their past because of prince, that is very small of him.

Now on to Prince in his purple goons. Sure its P's music, but he knows dxmn well he cant lay claim to anyones life, & although he wrote & produced the songs, he didnt perfom them night after night. Its incredibly stupid for him to care, since he's so successful, he just wants to prove no one gets by on him. P i love u, i get but enough already, let this thing die, P is only making things worse 4 himself

& why wont they just give up the name? so they can officially break ties with P, who isnt gonna lighten up anytime soon, 1) the name aint that great 2) The only reason they want the name is because, we prince fans are there targeted audience. They should build a new audience. 3) Alan is the douche in my opinion, he's been 4 years, i think he's the one wanting the band 2 milk this crap 4 all its worth. 4) say what u will about P, but atleast he's being professional, & not getting fans involved, Fdeluxe is a group of very cool ppl, but Plz delete ur silly Facebook pages & do things formerly

Exactly. facebook has become the associated artists ultimate weapon against Prince lol I'm like will they just shut up and sue him already since he has no claims as people here on the Org says.

I'm sure Prince has his control issues but I also think the relationships are very strained and not on good terms and that's what its about too.

[Edited 5/21/11 8:26am]

To be honest, isn't it better to find some way, no matter how difficult, to meet up with him and air their issues? Posting it on facebook or any other social network won't do a thing for either of them but make matters worse, and just have fans blowing up the issue more than it is. There's always a guarantee former band associates' fb messages will end up here, that's without a doubt. Now do some of these former band members know it may end up on one of the unofficial fan sites, that they think someone from P's camp may notice and relate what they read back to him?

Sure, that's a possibility, but in the end, what does it solve? Nothing, because the issue between the former band member/associate/ex's, etc., will still be between them and P, no matter the comments from any member of this site. So isn't it better to just confront the issue firsthand, directly, by finding a way to set up some type of meeting with him or representative from his camp to resolve some of their issues? It may be a stretch and take some time, but it doesn't hurt to try, instead of comments on an FB page or other social network that may just make matters worse. shrug

I wish all the "adult" parties involved had this much common sense.

He may have a point, but then he made an intentional swipe about P's Cali shows not selling out like the NYC shows, so that comment right there was meant as a personal swipe at P, no question about that, and it does nothing to help FDeluxe's situation with him, but rather increases the tension between them. All these FB swipes/messages whatever you want to call them, won't do a thing to resolve any issues for any of them, if there are/were any hopes of reaching some type of mature solution, because all it is doing, is playing into the hands of fans to make of those messages what they choose. I'm sure this won't be the end of the FB messages saga either.lol

Remember the scene in Purple Rain where Wendy confronted "The Kid" in the dressing room? Why not deal with it head on like that, and not cowardly like on FB? I mean has FB now become the new "Sticks and Stones can break my bones but your namecalling or what you try to do to me can't hurt me" way of communicating between former friends?lol

Now I'm not saying they should look him in the eyes and all, no no no! but at least try to do it behind the scenes like mature adults, instead of using FB to get the message across to him, knowing some of his fans' may post those messages in a place, where someone from his camp may see it, and then the fans end up making suggestive ways for these former band members to handle the issue, because that's pretty much the direction these FB messages are going.lol

No hatin' here...just pity. How sad that someone with 21 shows that he can't sell out (guess Cali ain't New York!)....has nothing more important to do than obstruct a bunch of grateful proteges from trading on a history that they deservedly share. It's not cool to judge one's motives, so I'll leave that to him and the Almighty he so avidly claims to let guide him. I didn't know Jehovah was a King. Guess dude needed to choose a Chosen after all. Go figure. Sarcasm aside, he oughta learn to be proud of those who passed thru his camp and learned from him instead of obsess. It's soooo pathetic and beneath his stature.

I know everyone must know this but me, but who is Alan Leeds to Prince? His old manager?

Um, have you tried Googling him?

Yes, yes, YES!!!!!! Get 'em, Alan!! Prince claims to be so cool and "chill" and a hater of being tied down by the master contractor, and he's doing the EXACT same thing to anyone he feels is under his thumb.

I wish more would have the balls to call him out like this, because when you're wrong, you're wrong! Just what is he "protecting" all of the names and whatnot for anyway? He's not using it for anything, and it's not like he's planning on releasing old stuff to reintroduce the brand to the marketplace. Hell, he can't even release an album in the States that was released in the UK, so I KNOW he's just sitting on all of The Family's music and videos, as well as all of his other proteges and Princely vault items that never saw the light of day.

And to Prince, if these guys are actually going to do something with the name and its legacy, let 'em cuz you ain't gonna do SHIT with it! Oh, and just as Alan mentioned, your little 21-night stand in LA ain't quite what you thought it'd be, is it? Even with tickets at $25. Go somewhere and sit your little played out, paranoid ass down somewhere! lol

Alexander..how does it help FDeluxe though? Calling out is one thing, actually having balls big enough to do it face to face is another; and about Cali not selling out, has Alan sold out any arenas, anywhere, of his own as a solo musician, without P or did that happen only when he was part of Prince's band? Also, just so you don't think I drank a galloon of purple koolaid or is some "fanbot", far from it. I just don't see what all the FB messages or swipes at him will do to improve or resolve any of their relationships with him in the future, if at all.

Prince is a control freak but guess what? He was a control freak back in 1984 too(he just didn't do interviews and speak in public). His actions are not a surprise to anyone who knows him in a business sense. He was a svengali back than and he's still one today. He's not going to change and the fans need to accept that already.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

It would be great if they had a sit down and talked it over. From history it might be fairly clear why that would be unlikely to happen.

Once again- legally- P. Diddy owns the name. Reality seems to matter very little around here. One of the pluses to use the name is to give them recognition for promoting live shows since they are likley to be performing the older music. THAT doesn't seem to be at issue. So they say Fdeluxe performing songs from their new album and selections from The Family?

Yeah and the thing is, by taking their grievances to a public forum, where they know Prince won't come to defend himself, then only the one side gets heard. It will only make things worse (if that's even possible) when their words get back to him anyway.

But I'm confused, I thought they were doing all new music under a new name, so why are they still having a problem? I admit I haven't kept up on this, because I don't really care about the album, just curious as to why this has come up yet once agani.

Prince didn't create in a void.

And it's a little creepy you're comparing Prince to God.

And I don't get your point. They CREATED all the music on there new album. So they did indeed "create their own". All they WERE trying to do is have some continuity to a name that was associated with the band members and the music they sang.

Are you telling me groups like the Temptations, O'Jays, Four Tops should have been able to have their names stripped by the producers, musicians and writers who made their sound (all they did was sing on an awful lot of it) if they decided to be jackasses about it?

[Edited 5/21/11 12:22pm]

keeping up would be a good idea if you want to drop in the middle and comment - especially if you are going to insinuate something they aren't doing...i'm just saying.

fdeluxe is NOT taking grievances to a public forum. All they did was say they got a letter from Prince's lawyers about calling the ALBUM (not the band) The Family. Most of the comments are from other people. They changed the album name EVEN though the letter holds no legal weight.

It was also noted (as I said a few times) that P. Diddy is the legal trademark holder of "the family" when it comes to music. I'm guessing they just don't want a long legal battle and would rather have the music out than be dealing with Prince.

Nice, too, that you have to remind everyone you don't care about an album you haven't heard.

lol Well, one only has so much time to catch up on things and I thought this had all been settled long ago, so I was curious as to what all the hubbub was about. shrug

Actually reality does matter much around here, if you're trying to clear things up like it seems you're trying to do here. Okay, so what I'm getting from your postings is that Diddy owns the name, "The Family"; FDeluxe can sing their old songs;FDeluxe changed the name of their album, and so it seems all may be well now. Okay, point taken.thumbs up!

Go somewhere and sit your little played out, paranoid ass down somewhere! lol

Venting done..... cool

[Edited 5/21/11 11:53am]

I'm not saying it does "help" FDeluxe. But not every single statement has to have the motive of alleviating the group's plight. It was just a statement; a rant to blow off frustration over a very long battle, I'm sure. Prince is so used to everyone publicly sucking his dick that maybe Alan thought a little public humility would go a long way. I don't know. But I do know his statement wasn't supposed to be a true means to an end to this whole naming issue, but just a music industry veteran's opinion. And that's good enough for me.

Maybe they should just cover their faces with scarfs, rename themselves with unpronucable symbols and declare themselves free of CON-tracts lol.

Makes u laugh Mr. Free the music who scribbled slave on his face is now a slave master himself!!

Its a shame no one slams a law suit on him after the slating he gave Ticket Master on US tv for ticket prices lol.

He's just pissy that the family dont need him and they cant make money without his ass. He shouldnt be so arsy and throw everyone out then get annoyed when they start making it. Is there an associated artist who's life he hasnt interfered with after they were kicked from paisley parks and set up on their own? How many artists albums has he pulled? One mans trash is another mans treasure, get over it Prince.

Things must be bad over in Prince land, The twinz are campaigning for people to help pay their mothers hospital bill, Shelby is selling her bands album for $5 a pop via facebook and he cant sell out Cali's 21 nights? Guess he pissed on his own bonfire too many times.

Y'know...I honestly don't care about the whole backstory - and I've been looking forward to the album. But this edition of The Family Feud is really starting to turn me off - to the point where I may not even buy the album.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
