Emmy & Grammy Nominee Sheila Escovedo picked up the drumsticks and started making music at the precocious age of three, while watching her legendary father, percussionist Pete Escovedo rehearse. Sheila delivered her first solo performance to a live audienc...e two years later and has since established herself as one of the most talented percussionist/drummers and performers in the world. Best known to music fans as Sheila E., she became a top session and touring musician before the age of 20, performing and/or recording with George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham, Con Funk Shun and countless others. Later with Marvin Gaye on his final world tour, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan, Babyface, Patti LaBelle, and Steve Nicks among others. In the 1980’s, Sheila’s friend Prince helped to catapult her to her own pop superstardom. Her obvious talent and hits like “The Glamorous Life” and “A Love Bizarre,” plus her pivotal work on other Prince-related projects contributed to her international stardom. Particularly proud moments include her participation in the “We Are The World” session, and a memorable performance on the Oscars with virtuoso Placido Domingo. In recent years, she has served as musical director for the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce’ Knowles, and Prince. Her producing and arranging talents have been showcased on the Latin Grammy Awards, Summer Olympics, WOW Awards, ALMA’s, and the Image Awards. Including becoming television’s first female musical director for Magic Johnson’s “The Magic Hour,” Sheila’s enthusiasm for “passing it on” to a new generation of players led her to design “ClassE” Custom Series for adults, and the “Sheila E.’s Player Series,” for children, both with TOCA distributed by Kaman Music. • Recently received a Doctorate of Music Degree from MI • Honored with a 2010 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Music Direction for “Fiesta Latina, A Performance at the White House” • Appeared for the 3rd consecutive time as featured drummer for Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band tours • Was a celebrity judge on Fox’s “The Next Great American Band” • Was the Grand Prize Winner of “Gone Country 3” on CMT • Recently released The E Family CD entitled “Now & Forever” with Father Pete Escovedo, and brothers Juan and Peter Michael Escovedo under her own label Stilettoflats Records. "Now & Forever" can be purchased through the E Family website at www.the-e-family.com and during ALL Prince shows at The Forum in Los Angeles. • Sheila is currently touring with The E Family and making special guest appearances with Prince during his "Welcome 2 America" tour Despite her commitment to, and the demands of making music, Sheila maintains a heavy involvement in charitable organizations as a philanthropist, with her passion as co-founder & chair of the Elevate Hope Foundation, focusing on the needs of victims of child abuse, by promoting music and arts education as an alternative form of therapy.See More

I know, you would think we could at least get a setlist, or maybe even a local newspaper blurb. Did the event really happen?

The Fine Line Music Cafe was playing Prince's song Love when the doors opened yes Before and between the other sets, one Prince song after another Prince song filled airwaves guitar These upbeat Prince tunes were fantastic and fun, some from 3121 and the later releases.

It really was one Beautiful Nite. The hightlight for me was to hear Kip Blackshire singing live again, he's been out in CA for the last few years. He's working on a new album and he's sounding better than ever music

Seeing Dr Fink on the keyboard was oh so funky headbang His son was also there and playing the keys with an opening group whose name I don't recall. Some other new talent were also showcased as openers to the headliners.

It was great to see Michael Bland as always, I wish that there were more time before The Fine Line had to close the doors. No pictures, I was too busy absorbing the music, atmosphere, and movement, enjoying every moment.

There was a table set up for items to be autioned for Shiela E's Elevate Hope Foundation. Lots of nice items including some cool Prince leggings woot! were up for bid. The ladies at the table said that Shiela planned to be going on tour soon and that would be why she won't be playing with Prince.

It was a first for me to see Tyka Nelson and that was interesting. I'm sure that I'm forgetting some things. It was a lively show with lots of great sounding musicians. I just checked this thread and wish that I could give a more in depth review, but I'm just a bit tongue tied lately lol

No that's looks like the guy, that showed up in NYC at the 12/29 show at Madison Square Gardens, walking through the audience fooling people that he was Prince. He even responded to audience members calling him Prince when they called out to him. That guy was shaking hands and taking pictures with audience members The sad thing is, many audience members were bamboozled into thinking it was Prince, but it wasn't. disbelief

I believe security finally escorted that guy out of the arena. Not sure if he returned.

Somehow I've always felt impersonators suffer from an identity crisis. lol

Thanks a million lady. I was checking for a report and it sounds like a good night. I have Kip's cd and it's really good and soulful. Love Michael Bland too.

How many songs did Tyka do?

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
