Is Andy Allo Prince's New "Wendy"?

I don't recall Wendy being superb when she first joined The Revolution, Though I'm for certain she was a better guitarist Than Andy Allo. But If Andy turns out to be a new inspiration or "Muse" to Prince [similar to Wendy & Lisa], & we get some really good music from Prince, is it a bad thing she's in the band? I wouldn't say so....

....She is a joy to look at too... love2

At least Wendy could play guitar. 3rd of August, 1983, 'nuff said.

W&L were more like Prince's peers, whereas Allo is just a fuck toy.

Like Prince wasn't the new Bowie, just Prince

like Janelle Monae isn't the new Prince, just Janelle Monae

like Britney wasn't the new Madonna, just Britney,

Allo ain't the new Wendy, just Allo .. regardless of whatever wonders she might create.

I've always hated the "_____ is the new _____" .. It's such shallow way to discuss music.

But speaking of Andy Allo, here's a stupid one. Let's call it an age test:

I thinky Wendy was/is dope! I'm just wondering if Prince is trying to recapture some of his youth by having Andy on his band....

i think prince fans r more stuck on the past then he is and thats the problem cuz no matter how much shit wendy or lisa talk if prince wanted 2 reform the revolution they would both be back right now so aint no need 4 being a new wendy when he can always have the old.

thats the problem with people on here they wont let prince grow wanna keep him trapped in 84 when he showed us in 85 that he not gonna repeat himself.purple rain is gone the revolution is gone prince disbanded them after what 3 or 4 years, he has had the npg for like 15 years or so. so seem like 2 me we need 2 exhale and let prince be prince

He's not growing, the music he has made over the past 15 years sucks ass. I like the music he wrote when The Revolution was around, but I don't think the band was that great. I still prefer the SOTT/Lovesexy band and the '93-'95 NPG over them.

you've just disqualified yourself from anyone taking you seriously...

TRC (the entire album shows Prince completely inspired and not repeating himself) and LotusFlow3r (the album) are amongst Prince's best work of any era. 20Ten has two of his best songs ever IMO.

Change it one more time..

Why don't you just speak for yourself, because I know I've read many posts here from people who agree with me. As a whole his music in the past 15 years has been overproduced, uninspired and more of the same.

Do I still expect Prince to be original and innovative? No (this happens to all artists) and as a matter of fact I do think it's somewhat admirable that he keeps doing what he thinks is right even when he keeps failing, but that doesn't change the fact that his new work is completely irrelevant. Hell, when his peers talk about him, they don't even talk about his early to mid '90's work. It's all 80's stuff.

To be honest, I don't see whats the big deal about Wendy's playing. Damn near every rhythm guitarist(esp Miko) who came after her surpassed her, playing wise. She's a great collaborator though, I'll give her that.

Lisa on the other hand was irreplaceable, I even regard her as WAY more of a skillful pianist than Prince is. She & Wendy were a great team for Prince, but I think had Lisa stayed, she would still contribute great things.

Umm.. you forget you made an unqualified statement, yet you ask me to qualify mine? Sure. And you make another one "this happens to all artists"... bullshit. I can name a dozen artists that were completely original & innovative up until their deaths. Aging has nothing to do with creativity & innovation. In fact some people are MORE creative & innovating in their latter years. It all depends on whats going on in their lives. If they become more conservative people in general as they age then their art generally goes the same way.

Change it one more time..

wendy actually put her hands on the guitar.

when i saw this new chick all i could think was, does he really have to put everybody he fucks in his band? she seems to be in WAY over her head musically.

i'm sure she's very talented in some capacity but she has yet to demonstrate what capacity that is.

But what about Dez Dickerson who was BEFORE Wendy Melvoin?!? Even till this, I strongly believe that Dez is still a hard act to follow in all of Prince's band line-ups. At least Dez knows how to funk & rock out! wink

As for the people after Dez:

1. Wendy is better as a collaborator and would give Prince a second opinion whevever he wanted one.

2. Miko didn't do anything but exactly what Prince told him to do.

3. Levi was a factor for a few Prince songs (Sexy MF being one of them). But he never gave second opinions as strong as Wendy would have.

4. Kat Dyson didn't do anything but exactly what Prince told her to do.

5. Mike Scott didn't do anything but exactly what Prince told him to do.

I have a question for the experienced guitar players.

People are saying her guitar was busted or whatever.

When playing with a live band can you tell when your guitar is outta wack? I assume you easily can but i just wanted to make sure. It seemed like she was obvious that her sound was fugged up.

I couldnt hear her playing anything.

I know when i younger i was playing in some school function and i was fucking up like crazy but then again it was a trombone lol

I agree that a lot of people on here long for prince's glory years. Hell I do!
But damn almost every post i have seen of yours slags off anyone who no longer works with him. Wendy does tons of tv and film scoring and i would guess that pays better than being a guitarist in his band. She's probably her own boss too which is important the older you get fo sure.
Maybe you need to listen to some prince lyrics "positivity, have you had your plus sign today"
