The dumbest thing you have done for Prince

I have heard more tan a few stories about people not paying rent or bills to have money for Prince concert tickets. I have seen chicks get the symbol tatooed on their bodies. I met a few black dudes who had fried their scalps with relaxer trying to get Prince's hair from the 1999 video.

I remember going to my first Prince gig on the Controversy Tour and there wa a guy there wearing the complete outfit from the Dirty Mind album cover - trench coat, leg warmers, bikini drawers, with no shirt or pants and ass out - in the dead of winter - probably the dumbest fanatic Prince stuff I ever saw. I remember telling my friends that he was going to get his ass whipped as we went into the arena. Sure enough, after the show, we saw him trying to run in some boots with 5 inch heels as some thugs chased him through the parking lot while calling him some gay slurs.

At the Xenophobia celebration, I met a chick who told me that she had quit he job and moved across the country to Mpls so she could be discovered by Prince. SHe was trying to get her demo tape to him at Paisely Park.

On the One Nite Alone tour in LA, Prince did 2 concsecutive nights st the Kodak followed buy aftershows- one of which was down the street at the House of BLues. I saw 2 chicks - who had been in line since 7am that morning to get their pick of the NPG Music club seats at the first concert - leave the aftershow at HOB and go directly back to the Kodak and camp out on the sidewalk to be first in line for the second show the next day. They were going to sleep on the filthy Hollywood Walk of Fame sidewalk surrounded by some of the most disgusting forms of nocturnal life on the planet.

What is the dumbest - or should I say most extreme - thing that you have done for the sake of your Prince fandom??

Gotta say that the last paragraph wasn't dumb. I was part of that group of hardcores in L.A. I did stay in the hotel right there at the KODAK but those girls saved my spot while I napped for two hours in my room. Maybe it was crazy but I did let people use my hotel room to clean up and change before each show but it was such an awesome time. That was right around this week back in 2004, wasn't it? I met some of the best purple hippies during this time period...

So the dumbest thing that I ever did was fly out to Vegas to see him at 3121 and he canceled the show with no advance notice...Flew in from Hawaii and that's when I decided that I would never go out of my way for a Prince concert. Now I'm living in Vegas and I don't trust him enough to go out to LA.

I do know someone who moved to Minneapolis and became a JW and went to his church because of him...I guess if JW is The Truth, it won't be as crazy as I think it is...But she's still a nice woman smile

When I saw those chick in Hollywood, there were funkier than some wet Magic Shave from sweating through 2 gigs and nearly 2 days of camping out. They passed on your offer to wash in your room.

Nothing.

There is no way I would ever put myself in debt or any other stupidity to see anyone, least of all Prince.

However, as pointed out by vitriol, I also joined this madhouse......twice!

I havent really done anything ..dumb...but me and my friend did hike a trip to Paisley Park during the Xenophobia show..didnt get in...and when the concert was about to happen we hitched it right back to Minneapolis..no car just walking...a really good time. My strength was put to the test at that time.

I think only my bank account can answer this question, ive bought some fanzines for what? some love symbol pendants again for what? tons of posters i have no room in my house to hang, terribly recorded videos, and lets not forget the money P took directly from his website memberships. tons of money is where i'll leave it at lol

However, concert tickets, albums, movies, vinyls, rare photographs, music outakes, magazines and clothing, and loads of other collectible items, were all worth it, i jus have it bad 4 the guy love

At this one job I had, we were still using those old paper time cards. For over a year I wrote a "prince" in for my name. And they let me get away with it lol

This is more embarassing in retrospect due to the fact that I was a sous chef/supervisor at the time lol

No surprise, I moved out of my house last October into a crappy house so I could afford to go to see him in Denmark. It saved me almost $500 a month, so that extra $500 a month(times 3 months) I used to go see Prince in Denmark!! Was well worth it too. I also changed cell phone service and got rid of my cable tv...and somehow scrapped together enough to go see him in NC. I've been trying to think of what I can do now to be able to afford these LA shows...hmmm

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

It was a modest bow...I didn't get on one knee or anything...it was a show of respect but it was obvious immediately that he took it strange. Shoot, other people who get to dance on stage for a whole song have done ten times worse. lol

I dont think I have ever done anythiing that crazy tbh I did go to the 21 nights shows in London and work at the same time so at times I was getting up at 6am going to work, going straight to a show staying for the afterparty and then getting home at about 4.30am getting up at 6 and doing it all over again....

Oh and I flew back from Switzerland for the final afterparty, that was kinda crazy only because of the lack of time and stuff, at 1.30pm the uni fieldcourse was officially over but we were at the top of a mountain about 3 hours away from Geneva and I had to get back down the mountain, pack my bags, get a taxi to the train station, get a train and catch my flight without being able to speak a word of their language. I managed it smile and when I got in the car at Stanstead we turned on the radio and Prince was just starting the mainshow (they had put the microphone next to the TV so they could broadcast the first 15mins lol) and when I got there I found my lil sister had been queing for me from about 5pm so I had was near the front biggrin

You did that all just for Prince, or were you moving and doing all of that stuff anyway and you just used the money you ended up saving on Prince tix and such?

Besides standing on line many times over for countless hours, paying way too much for concert tickets and making my way "backstage" a few times like a crazy lady (which at least inspired a good song or 2 - hahaaa!) When I was 12 years old, I bought a cheesy Peach outfit for the Sign O the Times concert when I lived in Rome, back in 1985-87 (because the tickets said dress in Peach or Black - so I picked Peach confused ) and of course he cancelled the gig. Never wore that thing! lol

it must have been close to midnight on a june night 1990 - i was waiting at king's cross station, london with two prince tickets in my pocket - rotterdam - the nude tour - my friend was nowhere to be seen and the coach had to go - i raced around trying to find a payphone that worked - i found one - bad news - my friend's father had been taken ill - my friend's uncle told me he was at the hospital - i was in two minds if to go - my friend's uncle said go - i ran back to the coach - it was pulling out of the station - i chased after it - i caught up at a red light - the tour guide recognised me and prompted the driver to open the door - slipped on my sony walkman and pressed play - kool skool - jesse johnson production - disturbed sleep - ferry crossing - sick on the boat - lost the rest of my party - stranded in belgium - hitched a ride in a white van - four dutch guys - mercenaries - bad juju - been running guns for central african dictatorships - dropped me off at a macdonalds close to rotterdam - taxi to the stadium - made it - inside - heavy, heavy rain - coats as tents - spot miko weaver - heavier rain - crowd close by are getting high - bad bad juju - sound check...prince...the end - lucky break - tour guide spots me - sometimes lightening does strike the same place twice - back on coach - soaking wet - strip down to underwear - big guy lends me a spare pair of pants - more room inside them than a sleeping bag - back on the ferry - back in wet clothes - in the toilet trying to dry my clothes with the hand dryer - being watched by quite a few orthodox jews.
