Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it means you've decided to look beyond the imperfections... unknown

Misty Copeland's performance with Prince was amazing! I'm glad that I Am Entertainment Magazine featured her and gave us the opportunity to see the performance.

There was something a few weeks back in "Parade" mag that comes with the Sunday paper that made me think. It was a feature about how much people make. A ballet dancer with the last name Horne dances in New York and makes less that $17,000 a year. Divide that up by 52 weeks and 40 hrs a week and she'd be better at Burger King in NYC! Made me wonder what a soloist like Misty makes and I bet it is scary low considering all the $$$$ put into becoming a dancer in the first place and staying in shape!!! There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

That fits perfectly with P his reputation for being cheap to cooperating artists 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I must be missing something. I thought that sucked. Her dancing just did not match to be with the music. Prince sounded bad too on the screaming. I didnt like it all the way around. They should have used a different song to promote her i think. Is he trying to recreate Mayte? She seems like an imitation but not as good. Oh well. Im glad to see some footage of this tour though!! IT sucks not being able to see clips online of him.

expecially those that get free tickets for purple pony rides! Once the man has got you hooked in to him, he then gets very cheap it seems. Don't know how hooked into Prince Misty is. If she is smart she'll stay at the "maybe, we'll see" stage with him as long as possible. I allways knew p was human. 'We'll see' is the most effective strategy to deal with men in general. So, I guess he's just the same as most men; becoming cheap as soon as they realize the woman really loves him. Business as usual
The real issue is the low pay for professional dancers. It's so much work from a young age on, and then when they'r at the top, they don't earn the dough that they deserve. Well, nobody could do it when it was just for the money, I know. It's a mission I guess. Still, these girls should get better deals.
It's an elevating art form that doesn't get the credits it deserves.

The sad thing is there was a girl in my town whose mother owned the most popular gymnatic school in the area. The girl was trained in that as well as dance. When she grew up she was about 5'7' and a tad heavy but curvy. She made a boot-load of money, AS A STRIPPER. I can only imagine how many extra flexible dancers end up becoming video vixens or worse, strippers because it pays a hell of a lot more. Even if Misty made twice as much as the other dancer, Ms Horne, she'd still be making less than $40,000 a year and living in one of the most expensive cities in the USA. It is truly sad when you think about how much time and money go into becoming a professional dancer (any style). Wow, I never knew ballet dancers made so little money, I wonder how they survive in a place like NYC?
I don't think I agree with Misty about bringing more mainstream elements into ballet though. I kind of like that there are aspects of the arts that aren't tainted by pop culture.
I hope she reaches her goals and continues her mentoring. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

i have to say i agree with you on the Misty thing ...she reminded me of Mayte too much which in return did have me think is he just missing that ....i like his performance tho ....but i didn't find hers not all that impressive as i have been hearing about her ...i am sure she is in her venue but i am not so sure of her in this with him ....it only makes you think of remake which will never be to par because there is only one Mayte and that cannot be duplicated it was perfect then ....
but all in all i enjoyed his performances alot !!!! [Edited 4/15/11 11:47am]
