To keep it perfectly real - Sheila just has outstanding genes. She looks hot for any age range and puts a lot of us younger chicks (myself included), to shame.

Very rarely would I say this about someone in her 50's:

Fran is still a hot piece of ass.

Either way, the sentiment is ageist.

No, you didn't EXPLICITLY say it wasn't ageist. But by using the term "Neither," you implicitly agreed that 50+ women are not hot, and added your own view about 18 year-olds not being hot. Making assumptions about the characteristics of a group (or in this case, groups) of people on the basis of their age is "ageist".

Most 50-some women aren't hot. That's just a fact. NO one is saying anything derogatory about Sheila. They are pointing out how rare it is that people continue to take care of themselves throughout their lives. "Damn, she looks good for 52!" implies that most 52 year olds do not look good - and that's the plain truth of it. Most people don't look great past their mid 40s, imo! Not that they are ugly cuz I loves me a silver daddy. Just saying that the ratio of good looking to mediocre or less is not equal.

That also isn't to say all 18 year olds are hot. It has nothing to do with agism. An agist comment would be that it must be very difficult for her to look so good at the feebled age of 52.

Wrong.

It's not wrong. The people who made the comments themselves have explained their intent. Which they shouldn't have to do. If you are trying to home in on some sort of underlying prejudice or something, let it go.

You're on a website dedicated to someone in his 50s as well. Full of fans who love artists in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s. Think of the context.

I was responding to a generalization about 18 year-old women that was a response to a generalization about women who are "50+". I realize this is a website dedicated to someone in his 50s. I am thinking of the context, and I think there could be more sensitivity to it.

Yeah and loading up the barn with people's sensitivities will get this place locked down faster than you can say boo. That's where we begin to intrude on our own beliefs (Freedom of Speech). If someone is not insulting someone else, you shouldn't feel compelled to enforce your will upon them. Period. These people making these comments about 18, 50, 69 for all I care, have expressed their lack of an intent to offend anyone or make slights against someone for their age. Beyond that, you really need to just let it go. It ain't that deep.

Well, given that your reply to me was predicated on the notion that I think women who are over 50 aren't hot - when I, myself, am in that demographic - you should feel stupid.

My "predication" was based upon the implication of your choice of words. I guess you should choose your words more carefully. Instead of "Neither`you could have used something like

`Rather`or ``On the contrary``, (i.e. On the contrary, 18 year-olds aren`t hot).

In any case, I don`t like these personal insults you hurl around here so I won`t be engaging you in conversation in the future. Note: there is a significant distinction between criticizing someone`s claims and insulting them directly.

Sweetheart, I make a very good living as a writer. There was nothing wrong with my word choice. You need to learn to read what's there, rather than what you want to see.

Check the profile again. It says "18- NOT OVER" as in 18 and/or under.
