Of course, and at the same time he invented rapping with the 'People call me rude...' speech.
What could you expect from someone who invented text language, is the second coming of Christ, a member of the Illuminati, etc...?

Dunno - Kraftwerks "Trans-Europe Express" and "The Robots" along with Giorgio Moroder's electronic productions for Donna Summer, especially "I Feel Love" seem pretty techno. Those were the late 70s. Just sayin.....

More B.S. Alicia Keys? Are you serious? She got nominated for 9 Grammys on her first record. She was going to be a success no matter who jumped on the train. That type of hype is CREATED and it had nothing to do with Prince. I was discussing Alicia on this site before she jumped off because I could see that product being manufactured from a mile away. There was a MASSIVE push on the part of Clive Davis to make Alicia successful and Clive has way more industry clout than Prince ever could or will. Clive made Alicia's career, not Prince.

calm down! I never said ANYTHING about Prince "making her career" go read the original thread post and you'll see I was adressing the thread topic specifically. She performed at the park in like....2001 I think...just prior to her making it HUGE. Sometimes being associated with Prince is the kiss of death..but in hers and Nora's case it wasn't. Sweetie, um, Prince is not a mentor to her. She was already famous, touring the globe, and an esteemed artist in the jazz world before becoming friends with Prince...not to mention she was a professor at the highest caliber institute for contemporary music in the nation. Esperanza Spalding has never been nor ever will be his protege, she is a formidable talent held in the highest regard by her musical peers, who just happened to become Prince's friend.

I don't think so. She was just 16, and entering college. Are you talking about Spalding or Keys?

I remember when she played at the 3121 jazz cuisine with Prince, and he thanked her when he was awarded the day after, as the talented group of musicians he gave his stage too...

come on now...on this board ANYThing is possible! But I reread the thread...and I got that. Sometimes I skim and things that would CLEARLY be sarcastic on other boards are not always so in orglandia - if you catch my meaning.

She's not a protogeé. Doing a Prince cover does not make her a protogeé. Prince has nothing to do with her music. The OP made a statement that implies that she is. Threads about her belong in the Non-Prince music section because her music has nothing to do with Prince. Her being on the same tour ticket does not make her an associated artist. She's not a girlfriend. She's not a protogeé. I think its absurd how desperately prince fanbots try to directly or indirectly associate every musical success to Prince somehow. They are friends and they are touring together. That is the case with many artists. This section is where the band members and ex-girlfriends or artists Prince has produced are discussed - people who owe their success to Prince. She does not. That's why Chaka and Larry threads always end up in the music non-Prince section. This should also remain the case with Esperanza. Her music has nothing to do with Prince and Prince has had NOTHING to do with her music. [Edited 2/16/11 12:24pm]

That is only true sometimes. There have been a lot of acts that have went on to have successful careers beyond that year. Carly Simon, The Beatles, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, The Carpenters, America, Bette Midler, Marvin Hamlisch, Natalie Cole, Rickie Lee Jones, Christopher Cross, Sheena Easton, Cyndi Lauper, Sade, Tracy Chapman, Jody Watley, Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton, Sheryl Crow, Christian Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, Maroon 5, etc.

And yet he wrote and played all the instruments on the first Madhouse album (except sax & flute, and Fink's solo on track #2), and did the same for the second album (except sax, flute, and tracks 10, 11, & 15). The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
