That was such a great performance. That episode of Arsenio was like crack for a Sheila fanatic like me. She did that song, then Lady Marmalade, then sat down for a long interview. Good stuff.

I think Arsenio was on crack saying "Sex Cymbal, with 'Y'"...Symbol is also spelled with a "Y"...

If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

thank U SoulAlive, for posting, never seen this before, very nice performance..!

I think I have the "Sex Cymbal" LP vinyl somewhere, never liked it though... imo this album sounded a bit plastic-ey, after the great 1987 "Sheila E." album.

But this tv-performance looks and sounds great.

I don't know the guitar player here, but it sounds a bit "screamy", same way as Prince could play it.

The self-titled 'Sheila E' album is her best album nod "Faded Photographs","Pride And The Passion","Love On A Blue Train"....so many excellent songs! It's the album that should have taken her career to new heights, but it suffered from a lack of promotion.

I love the audacity of the line "Fly females--I'm your idol!" biggrin

The guys with drums on their backs also appeared in the official video for the song.

By the way, whatever vision-blurring gauze they put over the camera while filming this, I'm sure Barbara Walters would kill to get ahold of it for The View.

This song always reminded me of 'Black Cat' by Janet. Not my favorite of Sheila's, but a great performance just the same.

Sheila's still got this energy in her. Her solo show last year in San Francisco proved that. Wish someone like George Lopez or Letterman would give her a few minutes on national late night TV again.

I used to like this album a lot. Haven't listened to in years. I need to pull this out.

I used to dig the opening track One Day I'm gonna Make You Mine, Wednesday

Like a River, and Koo Koo as well as the ones you listed. I still like her debut

album best.
