Snowman with Nona Gaye re-opening closed subject: http://prince.org/msg/7/333829?sub=1
This song was written by Nona Gaye after she visited the place in 2000 where her father lived for a few years; Ostend, Belgium. Her father (Marvin) lived in an appartment with a view on the beach. In Ostend he wrote the album "midnight Love" including "Sexual Healing" This was around 1981-82, before he moved back to the states where he got shot by his father. ("'I'm gonna take him out before some white man does")
Sad story, but it explains the lyrics written by Nona...

written in 2000? r u sure? cuz according to the revelations 2.1 dvd its from either 93-94 and was one of the songs prince and nona worked on along with a 1,000 hugs & kisses and Lovesign. I love all 3 songs especially Snowman.Its a very beautiful song in my opinion | |

I liked this song when I first heard it but I liked it even more after reading the excellent biography "Divided Soul" by Dave Ritz, a music journalist and co-writer of "Sexual Healing". It took him years to become credited as the author of that song and his book gives you an in-depth look into Marvin´s tragic life. A great read.
By the way, what is Nona Gaye up to these days? I heard some really terrible rumors a couple of years ago and she seems to have disappeared after those rumors, which makes me wonder whether those rumors were maybe true. I liked her as a singer but I would have loved to see her in more movies. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?" | |

Odell Brown and Marvin wrote that song. David Ritz mentioned the words "Sexual Healing" in an interview with Marvin. Marvin said; "that would be a great name for a song". Ritz said he could buy that name for 10000 dollars. Marvin refused but mentioned him on the record sleeve. Afterwards Ritz sued Marvin and won! He still receives royalties for that song. so no co-writing at all!! A3(°) | |
