I wonder if he can afford whatever medical bills he will incur? If not I'm sure there will be some type of fundraiser.

It would be cool if the other members of The Revolution would do a concert in Minneapolis, as a fundraiser for Bobby. They could have Sheila E. on drums. Not sure if that will ever come to be, but the thought is nice.

Bobby Z Recovering from Heart Attack

HOPKINS, Minn. - The man who kept the beat to hits like Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ suffered a heart attack over the weekend, but doctors say they expect him to recover.

Vicki Rivkin said her husband, Robert, is sedated and resting, but is expected to pull through.

The man known as “Bobby Z” helped create what became known as the “Minneapolis Sound” in the 1980s, and he holds a special place in the state’s music history.

When Prince became an international superstar, Bobby Z kept the beat for his band, The Revolution, joining him on tour and appearing in music videos until he left to produce an album with his bandmates.

Now, however, the drummer at the heart of hits like “Uptown” and “Raspberry Beret” is having some trouble with his own heart.

Family members said Rivkin started feeling pain in his neck, arms and chest on Saturday, but he thought it was a pinched nerve from his years of drumming until his family convinced him to go to the ER and doctors discovered three of his arteries were blocked.

So far, they’ve unblocked two of the arteries and are waiting until his body to be strong enough to take care of the third.

Bobby Z's condition critical

Some contemporaries of Bobby Z were upset to learn about his heart attack via texts and Facebook chatter.

While the news is so jarring there's no way to get it without being disturbed, I'm told the musician who started blabbing on the social network meant no harm.

Bobby Z, who's always been so polite to me, was in critical condition Wednesday.

"He had three arteries that were blocked, and the doctors on Sunday night were able to take care of two of them," Adam Rivkin, his son, told me Wednesday. "They wanted him to get stronger in order to go through the final phase and take care of the third one. He's in critical condition and resting. He needs to build his strength so his heart can work on its own. Now they have him on help."

We're all keeping Bobby Z, his wife, Vicki Rivkin, and the kids in our prayers.

I think he will pull through just fine. He's got a lot of love and support and that is much needed when people are in a state of recovery. sun heart

sadly, I don't think Prince is that concerned with his connections with his old bandmates, etc.

He has said that attachements aren't healthy and when he is done with something/someone he usually doesn't go back.

That said...Bobby was basically Prince's best friend for many years so I am happy to hear that he contacted Vicki about this.

Bobby is a great guy and I'm sure knowing that everyone is teaming up to show him love is helping him.

Shocking news - hope he makes a full and speedy recovery. My thoughts are with him and his family.

And to those who are more concerned with what Prince may or may not do for his friend.....fuck off with that shit! This ain't the time and shouldn't be any of your concern. Some here will try and spin any situation in to a negative - it says way more about you than it does about Prince.

funkyhead	Wow, just heard this very sad news. It is just so sad and of course my prayers are with him to pull through and his family to strong. Bobby, you are not given anywhere nearly enough the credit you so deserve for your contribution to the Golden period. So on behalf of us all thankyou.
