I like it too It has that early 80s Prince sound that Prince himself abandoned after 1984.I think this could have been a hit.

Apparently,Jill didn't like the song,either She and Prince parted ways after a disagreement during the production of her second album.She didn't like the direction that Prince was taking her in.

In retrospect,Prince probably should have offered this song to Paula Abdul.It's a stronger,better song than the tune that he gave her ("U").

I think Mayte did a song very similar to this "The beat of my heart",

it was bad, too.

It seems off beat and she sounds off key. You can hear that Prince arranged the backing vocals... Sounds complex and very good..

I was thinking about this yesterday. Jill does get a pass around here.

But really, her versions of 'All day, all night' and 'For Love', hell, practically her whole album is unlistenable for me. Her screaming, screeching, caterwauling almost totally destroys some great songs.

If it wasn't for the fact he gave her so many great songs, I wouldn't be able to listen to her at all.

(I tried listening to the Chris Bruce 'One' thing. Talk about some pretentious, terrible, unlistenable shit.)

I understand she's a big part of the Paisley history and I respect that to a point, but let's be honest, she's just not a good singer.

I like the vigour and squeals of her delivery, think they perfectly suit the play of the album. Apollonia is unlistenable, and Vanity, Sheila, and Mayte were hardly technically proficient either.

That's what I figured.It definitely has an early 80s sound.It's interesting that Prince always gave Jill songs from the early 80s...."All Day/All Night","Mia Bocca","G-Spot","Baby You're A Trip",etc.

I've always liked BOOM BOOM. Her delivery is playful and girly, and it seems like she's having loads of fun singing it. Thanx for uploading the vid!

It's not as good as the song 'Ground You walked On' from the film Earth Girls Are Easy. That song is awesome but seems to have fallen off the radar.

Jill can sing. But that song is wack. I am glad that she also admitted it as well. The song doesnt fit with her nice vocals.

I wish we had gotten a second album from Jill.The first album is good but I don't think it really displays Jill's true talents.As someone pointed out,the vocals are out of control on several tracks....alot of screeching,Prince-inspired yelps and screams,etc.

Cyndi Lauper has a GREAT voice. But Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is not a good song to spotlight her voice. True Colors was the first time that I realized just how good of a singer Cyndi was. Not to mention her part in We Are The World.

I think Jill's situation is the same thing.

The reason Jill gets kudos from me - and many other orgers - is that some of us consider her Paisley Park debut album to be one of the highlight albums from the protégé stable of that time.

Having said that I haven't enjoyed any tracks since. I guess for me, much like Sheila E. their Park albums were an extension of Prince's greatness at the time. Hell, he's s all over 'em!

BTW IMO Can't you feel' is truly awful and should've been given to Carmen Electra

I'm not mad at this album at all. A completely different take from her paisely park days...this is more acoustic rock. I love it.

Always loved this song. Funky little number.

I think Jill's biggest problem was timing.Her album took too long to get released and by 1987,songs like "G-Spot","Mia Bocca" and "All Day/All Night" were outdated.Her album should have been recorded and released in late 1984 or early 1985 to take advantage of the Purple Rain hype.It seems that she was put on the backburner while Prince focused on folks like Sheila E. and Mazarati.

I think more than timing, which I agree was an issue - Jill's biggest problem was being on Paisley Park Records.

That label blocked the ability for most of it's acts to reach a wider audience because it was just a big fucking joke basically.
