She used to cover Sexy MF back in the days...Love Me'Shell, clever talented woman.

I'd love to see her cover Prince songs. That would be amazing.

I agree. Sweetie and I saw her at The Dakota in Minneapolis a little over a year ago - and she was great. I heard Prince was at one of her shows - but I didn't see him at the one we went to.

I think it would be cool if Meshell recorded an album of covers with some P songs included of course.

She usually takes a cover a makes it her own and I like that. I suppose you could make a compilation of all the covers she's already done. There's quite a few. Anyone got a list?

Why Prince never added her to his band? I remember she use to play at his Glam Slam club back in the day. I miss those days...........

I also have a bootleg where she performs "All the Critics Love U In New York", in which she precedes it by saying "I think it's strange when people want 2 be famous, but when U download their picture or their music, they get mad at U." and U can hear the audience laugh cuz they knew she was talking about Prince. It's from Novemember 2007, right in the middle of the "PFU" movement when Prince was suing his fans again.

Also, I found an article from OUT magazine from 2009 where she says that though Prince is a huge inspiration 4 her, that she thinks he's a jerk...

In an interview with an online radio station from last summer, she pretty much said the same thing. She said that she had met him on a few occasions and that he just wasn't a nice person. When she asked him 2 play a guitar solo on the song "Trust" from her 2002 Cookie cd, he told her no and "called me something that's not even worth repeating, but that's when I knew that his ego was way out in the stratosphere."

Some people here on the org has said that she's told that story in concert before, and that she says he called her a "house nigga" and said she still lived on the plantation since at the time when she made the request, she was still recording 4 Maverick records, owned by WB...again, this is her take on the situation. But if it's true, it wouldn't surprise me.

think she may have misunderstood him. There was no way he could have done a solo on her album on the Maverick Record label since it was WB affiliated. Especially since i'm sure it was after the days he left WB. She should have known that anyway. Prince is a very direct person. don't see anything wrong with what he said. Because if U really think about it. It was true. She just didn't like the way he worded it... Poor baby got her feelings hurt.
