Is Támar's Unreleased M & H Album Prince's greatest attempt at Mainstream R&B..??

I've just discovered 'Milk & Honey', and it was a pleasant surprise I must say..! I think the production is pretty slick, and while I wouldn't consider it to be a great Prince album, I do think it is Prince's best attempt at a more mainstream sound (for better or worse I guess). Overall, the album has a solid 'Beyoncé'-vibe, with the occasional oddity, such as the great 'Redhead Stepchild'.

What do you think??

I really liked Tamar's CD. I liked it more that Bria's CD to tell you the truth. The orchestration and harmonies were excellent and he worked harder on Tamar's CD than Bria's. I felt like Bria's CD was a "throw away" CD. Just music that he had lying around and since he had promised to make some music with her (Bria) she got songs that he just threw together. Also, Tamar is the better singer. Don't get me wrong, Bria can sing too, however, Tamar's CD was better. I don't know what happened between Prince and Tamar that her CD didn't get the official release, but I believe that it was a good commercial R&B CD. nod

I really like Tamar's album! Hate it never got released...could have a been a nice mainstream album. Could have garnished a couple nice hits. I LOVE Sunday in the Park and her version of Kept Woman!! And Red Headed Stepchild is rocking good, Prince's guitar playing on this song live was WONDERFUL!!! I liked Tamar...wonder what happened for real? Their chemistry onstage was good..

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

"Holy Ground" is one of my favorites on that CD. But after Prince stopped promoting "3121", Universal Records revoked Tamar's deal.

Why has my topic been moved here..? It's about PRINCE's ability as a producer, shouldn't it be in Prince Music And More..?

I'm just thankful that although it wasn't "officially" released, someone put it out into circulation...via boots....cool cool cool

Illegal downloads of the scrapped Japanese promos should be easy to find over the net.

Eye Records included the full album in their nothing-new-here 'Wow!' compilation.

There were some gems on it as well as a bunch of filler IMO. I thought some of the tracks Kwame produced for her unreleased second album sounded better. Her latest tracks haven't done all that much for me.

Change it one more time..

I think you have no idea what "mainstream" R&B is. Milk and Honey was DOA. I have no idea why it sounded so bland and I agree with the record execs that passed up the chance to release it.

B4 i say anything, don't get me wrong: i like M&H (the way i like Carmen Electra or Child Of The Sun, e.i. as i like any weak Prince album) and i deeply regret that it wasn't released. Now it's funny cuz i always felt that:

1) M&H sounds like P. kept all the good songs 4 2131 and used the weaker stuff on M&H (both albums are basically a double album, as they were recorded at the same time and sound the same).

2) M&H is way overrated because it was unreleased: had Elixer been scrapped and M&H released, i BETCHA that most people would claim Elixer 2 b a much better album.

3) Systematically comparing Tamar and Bria is meaningless, as their vocal range is different and it has nothing 2 do with technical skills, it's a physical feature and because women like Bria (or Vanity) just can't SHOUT like Tamar, Rosie or Jill doesn't mean they're lesser singers. Mayte had obvious technical problems when it comes 2 singing, but Bria doesn't. It's also meaningless 2 compare both albums and blame it on Bria if u think Elixer is weaker, because Prince is behind 100% of these albums so go and blame him instead. And last but not least, Prince obviously had very much different concepts in mind when he recorded/assembled both albums.

Anyway it all comes 2 personal taste in the end, but there's something so generic about M&H's sound... Maybe that's precisely why so many people (probably Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake listeners) love it as much as they do cool

Still, it sucks that it isn't part of the official Prince corpus sad

I always felt this way too! When I first heard the album, I thought they all sounded like throwaways from 3121. The drum production is nearly the same, among other little sounds and whatnot. Some of it is okay, but all in all, it's a VERY boring album. I never saw this making ANY kind of dent on the radio or in the stores if Universal released it. Hell, they barely played "Beautiful Loved & Blessed" when it was off of Prince's album, and that was the best thing on M&H!

B,L&B wasn't released as a single because (as the promo indicates) P planned it 2 a Tamar single. The song could have been a hit (much more than Black Sweat, Fury or Te Amo Corazon) and with So Far, So Pleased i consider it one of the 2 "lost" potential hits sad
