Photos: Prince "Sign o' the Times" tribute lol ...
"...There were some sho-nuff freaks up in 595 North last Friday night. Quiet ones. Crunk ones. Halfway drunk ones. Of course, Prince tends to bring out all kinds, as they trickled into 595 North to see a handful of Atlanta artists put their twist on the Purple One's 1987 opus, Sign o' the Times. The DOLLDAZE did a wild rendition of "Play in the Sunshine," after Jimmy St. James kicked things off with the title track. Sky Hy got acrobatic on "Housequake, and "Leaf" nailed "The Cross" with her acoustic guitar. Even though he chose to forego the falsetto parts on "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker," Horatio's cover was thorough. And Rahbi tapped into a whole ’nother freakquency, as he and Madam CJ got physical on "Hot Thing" before he wrapped it up with "If I Was Your Girlfriend..." This is why I hate tribute bands, because they always wind up making a mockery of the musician they are paying tribute to. The biggest difference between a cover band and a tribute band, is the way the band plays the music. Cover bands, only play the music, as simple as that. Tribute bands, take painstaking steps to re-create the images, mannerisms, and personas of a particular performer. Those guys look like total idiots. If Prince saw this gig, he's probably take his symbol guitar and impale both that man and woman through their throats to destroy their vocal chords altogether.
What kind of club hired these hacks anyway? Reminds me when Letterman booked Purple Reign for his show. If you can't book the real act, book a 2-bit tribute band in his stead. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

what is funny I actually know a few of these cats. LOL WOW I don't know what to say. This was a special event, they aren't a cover. The guy on Bass actually tours with India Aire. The others are pretty good musicians in Atlanta. The girl is actually a ball of fun to watch. If you saw her doing anything other than a Prince cover you would love it

These are not associated artists. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
