I just ordered my tix. Hopefully there is a decent crowd .. judging from the lack of replies to this thread I'm a little worried. The Hard Rock is so small is should make for a great show, sure beats seeing P in an arena. Come on people and come out and show Jesse some love. One of the most under rated guitarists of our time. Hope he plays a lot from Bare My Naked Soul but honestly dude could play whatever and it won't matter. CUT'EM JESSE!

What is this the third show in a year of his tour? Why so long in between each show? I would love to see him and would choose him over Prince right now as P's shows have gotten boring but I can't travel to Philly. Jesse, come to Detroit or Ohio area!!

Well Jesse ripped up the stage. He played his ass off and without all the needless cocky posing that Prince feels he needs to do. Jesse didn't go on till @11:15 and the Hard Rock Cafe shut the party down at 12:00. Right in the middle of Black In America Jesse tells us that the Hard Rock is shuttin' him down. He then played a quick version of Can You Help me as the house light came on. It would of been nice if he would of started earlier being that he comes around like once a decade but I still feel blessed to of finally witnessed in person this guitar legend. He came out and shook hands and hugged fans after the first couple songs saying it all felt too formal. He also said someone yelled out Lenny Kravitz when they saw him at our airport. Another half an hour would of made it the perfect show, being that he never got to Lovestruck and I Want My Girl ... but he played enough from Verbal Penetration and Bare My Naked Soul to make me feel satisfied. I can't believe that there isn't a lot more fans from Philly represented on here. Where you all at? Jesse if you happen to see this .. thanks bro. You are the man and should be recognized up there with the likes of Buddy Guy and B.B.!

I was there!!! I hate Jesse got shut down so soon. He was just getting started you could tell that he was just getting started. He would have been there all night if hard rock would have allowed. It seems like someone would have informed him of this. Also I wish he would have performed at world cafe live. It's the best venue in phlly for sound in my opinion. The highlight for me was "baby, let's kiss." So very funky!

I'm heading to the prince show tonight @ Madison square garden. I saw prince twice in December at a jersey show, and another MSG show. Between prince and Jesse this is guitar week for me. However, prince has really taken his guitar playing to another level, seriously!!! How is this even possible? I did miss his usual piano interludes this time around, however.

To respond to one of the previous posts, I do not find the new shows boring. It's MAJOR that he's doing different songs at each show. That is awesome!!! Now if he would dedicate different shows to performing entire albums in sequence that would be pretty hot. David Bowie did that once and gave an amazing concert of just the lodger album in the early 2000s. Pretty magical.

Buddy Guy and B.B. King? I dunno man not even Jesse, Jimi and Stevie Ray compared themselves to those two brothers as much as either one of them cats would compare themselves to T-Bone, Muddy, Son House, or Lightnin. Jesse would be better compared with guys in the funk-rock class of the late 70's-80's like Mark Hicks (Slave), Charlie Singleton (Cameo), Stephen Shockley (Lakeside), Roger Troutman (Zapp), Micki Free (Shalamar), Tom McDermott (Rick James), Lloyd Smith (Bar-Kays)...

I was also at the show and was loving it until the Hard Rock folks turned on the lights. That was some mess right there, but had the pleasure of meeting Johnson after the show. Very cool, humble dude.

Micki Free? Our you serious? Jesse is so much more versatile than any of those funk/rock guitarist. Bare My Naked Soul and Verbal Penetration are so Southern Rock and Jazz infused they truly put Jesse in another level. I remember him sitting in with the SNL Band one night and just tearing up some blues riffs much like he did Sunday night. If he would of been fortunate enough to have a few crossover hits with his more guitar driven songs he would be mentioned up there with SRV but that ain't gonna happen. And also, great players aren't going to compare themselves to other greats. In their time B.B. and Buddy Guy and even Hendrix (who Jesse dressed like the other night) stood out but players today have expanded on what they brought to the table as Jesse has. Compare Jesse to Micki Free?? What?

If you listen to Jesse play (and I like a lot of guys on that list) you wouldn't make that comparison. Maybe back in the 80s you could say that, but Jesse has surpassed that style of playing. I have even heard Micki Free and his latest material and it's nowhere near what Jesse is playing.

It's true, those guys never compared themselves to their heroes, but a lot of the people who listened to them - including other musicians - certainly did.

Micki was known for his time with Shalamar but before that he was playin straight heavy metal and was put on by Gene Simmons (KISS).They both started out playin hard rock/funk and can play everything from folk, blues and soul and that's why I made the comparison.

Man I've listened to and have just about EVERYTHING Jesse's played on, and that's why when the poster made the comparison to Buddy and BB, I wasn't sure about it. lol Jesse a lot of times in a song will throw in a lick that'll make you say "Uh Oh he's channeling Jimi right there (I'm Gonna Getcha") or "I hear a little Eddie Hazel on that one" (Vibe). It's just like when SRV played on David Bowie's "Let's Dance", he said I wonder if I could throw in a little Albert King on this groove and it worked. For instance I got into spoke word poetry when I was 17 and my 1st pen name of all names was Miles Coletrane. Pretty badd ass huh? ha ha Well, obviously I was a fan of their music but when I really listened and understood to what those brothers did, I looked at that name and felt like I may as well have been blashpheming. Their music like Jimi, Ernie Isley, Buddy Guy, BB King, Muddy, Robert Johnson, Albert King, Albert Collins etc etc was so scary and beautiful to my ears that I had to change the meaning to just Myles as in Myles to go before I ever got like them. lol I've met many musicians that when you mention certian people like that they get real humble about what they do 'cause they feel like "Yeah I'm pretty good but that guy/that band is outta this fuckin world". For a look at humility in the face of greatness, check out Buddy Guy. Now as badd as he is and was even back then he said that when he was playin those clubs in South Chicago in the 50's, him and his fellow players would cut heads and do a lot of jammin most of the time. But when cats like Muddy came around they all kicked back and gave him the floor 'cause he said when Muddy plugged in school was in session. wink
