Eric Leeds, Times Squared or Things Unsaid? Which is Better? I love both of these CD's. I have been listening to "Things Left Unsaid" a lot lately and have become absolutely in love with it. "Isla Mujeres", 2 Sisters, "Times Gift" and Prince's contribution "Aguadilla" all are incredible. I think it's a better ovreall CD than Times Squared.
So for all you Eric Leeds fans out there which do you like better...Times Squared or Things Left Unsaid?

Times Squared.
Still had that Madhouse feel. Some really strange and beautiful songs on there. Stuff that sticks with you after a listen or two. And I'm suprised as to how it still sounds fresh to me.

I haven't listened to these cds in years but I do remember loving Times Squared and all of Prince's awesome contributions. I'll have to dig them up.
Has Leeds put out any other records besides?

"Times..." and "Things.." are quite different albums - The first one is a bit funkier, more "Prince-like" and not so into a mellow Jazz-feeling like the second. If I had to chose, I would also prefer "Times.." but on the other hand I love the two covers on "Things..." (Woman in chains - Tears for fears and Soldiers Things - Tom Waits) very much...
There is a third album "Now And Again" which was released in 2000 but unfortunately I don't have it. Can anybody say something 'bout it? -----------------------------------------

For the ones who don't already know:
Times Squared is actually a Prince/Madhouse album. It was suppossed to be called '26' by Madhouse, but Prince did Eric Leeds a favour and gave him the album to be released under Eric's name. The other albums by Eric Leeds have no (direct) Prince involvement... Peace, TheKid Life's what u make it, stop whining baby Love comes 2 those who care... Prince - A Place In Heaven

Unlike many fans, I rather enjoy Prince's foray into jazz. I think it's a place where he can finally gain respect as a "serious" musician as opposed to a lingering 80s cult-of-personality icon.
That having been said, while TIMES SQUARED claims a respectable place among Prince's neophyte studio ventures into jazz (and I DO mean Prince, not Eric, because Prince's sounds totally defines this work), the album, as a jazz statement in itself, is monotonous, gimmicky, over-produced and just kinda predictable. Prince is my hero, but in terms of jazz composition, I don't think he had grown the balls yet to come up with arrangements that were more free-form and organic like good jazz is meant to be. "Dopamine Rush," for example, is one of my favorite songs on the album, but its main theme is pretty much the droning rehash of a kindred melody that keeps annoyingly turning up in Prince's work (first in "Vikki Waiting," later in Tevin Campbell's "Uncle Sam"). THINGS LEFT UNSAID is, in my opinion, the better jazz work and definitely the fairer introduction to who Eric Leeds is as an independent artist. The compositions were more sophisticated, diverse and didn't all sound like purple elevator music. [This message was edited Tue Feb 4 11:36:53 PST 2003 by Lammastide] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Things left unsaid for me because it didn't seem cluttered as Times Squared but for me overall Eric Leeds while a very Talented Instrumentalist is a Better Role Player Cat than a Artist Artist IMHO.I like certain things here&there but overall I can take it or leave Him as a Solo Artist. mistermaxxx

'Now And Again' is a great album. It came out on Zinc Records, which is owned by Bobby Z. Along with George Bensons 'That's Right', it was played before the concert I went to in London last October.

I have the cassette of "Times Squared" & I'm looking for it on cd..
it's a very good album, some songs have a distinct "Latin" feel to them. My favorite song is "Night Owl", for some reason it reminds me of Christmas.. I'll see you tonight..
