Prince and Andre-Still Friends? Hello Orgers, I saw an old video clip of Andre Cymone and he seemed a litter bitter towards Prince. I've been researching and can't find much to suggest that the two has had bad feelings towards one another. Does anyone know if Andre and Prince are still friends or affiliated? P used to sleep in Andre's basement back in the day. Did Purple Rain and the formation of the Revolution end their friendship? Jason

I guess that if Andre is no longer of any use to Prince then no , they would no longer be friends

I thought in Prince's last Tavis Smiley interview, he referred to Andre as his best friend.

The last I heard of Prince having anything to do with Andre was during the Parade hit and run shows in the USA. Andre guested at a couple of them. TRUE BLUE

prince still refer 2 andre as his best friends so cant be too much love lost between em and being that they have known eachother since they were kids i dont think they would let music come between em

Yeah he did. I remember thinking...nice that Prince has kept this friend for so long! He really needs that in his life, a constant. And he and Andre has quite a history together, so I doubt there is any love lost between them. Probably just nornal spats like friends have. Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Well maybe they, like Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin, can realize that they lost alot when they lost touch with eachother. If anybody can use life long friends who know the real you and love you despite it, it is Prince. It depends on when that video clip is from, most likely. I recall there being mention that some of Andre's performances on at least one Prince record went uncredited (For You) and both Andre and Pepe Willie have said that the music for Do Me, Baby was really written by Andre.
I believe they patched things up by the time Prince gave him The Dance Electric, though.

Andre explained at the interview from Detroit's "The Scene" that he would stay in Prince's band until Prince got to a point in his career where things would start rolling. Andre always had his own ideas of which musical direction he wanted to go himself. Org-member "Blackguitaristz" has met Andre a couple of times and posted about some of those meetings here on the forum : http://prince.org/msg/5/260682 + http://prince.org/msg/5/233717

Prince never has bad blood with anybody. Just like us in real life, if we're close with somebody and a disagreement ensues, true you will be upset at that person at that particular time. But you don't hold it against them and you eventually make up. It's part of life. Ups and downs come with everybody even celebs. Besides, if you think about it, why would P write Dance Electric for Andre. It doesn't make sense. Peace and be wild!

Prince does have bad blood with people, even if he eventually makes up with them. Sheila E., for example, was forbidden to step inside Paisley Park at one point.
Sometimes, he just "invents" the issue... like when it was stated he would only work with W&L again if they renounced their homosexuality. That didn't last long.
Anyway, I'm unclear on your comment about The Dance Electric. Prince did write it for him (or gave it to him, anyway).

i guess he meant with "it doesn't make sense" that it doesn't make sense why they wouldn't be friends ... why would it make sense for them not to be friends when Prince wrote "TDE" for Dre' [Edited 11/29/10 7:22am]

TDE was 1985?! Folks go through some changes in 25 years. Good or bad changes, who is to say? Good evidence or bad evidence of a friendship, who is to say what TDE really is? Divorce happens between great friends as well as lovers. It does make me quite happy (yeah, i know, get a life) to think that they could have maintained a close friendship over the years. I am fortunate to have a few of those friendships that have outlasted time and circumstance, and still nurture me some 30 years later. ("You seen the duct tape?") I am going to try and run across a clip of that Tavis Smiley moment this weekend.
