They both used each other, I doubt either of them truly loved each other or that she really gave a shit about being a JW, however that was her ticket to money and fame and he used her as his trophy. However, as you can see, Mani came out the winner, those alimony payments must be sweet!!!

The are two reasons that I doubt that Mani was a user.

First, she was only 22 years old, from Toronto with absolutely no knowledge of the entertainment industry when she pursued her idol Prince. She was not a 36 year old woman that had been around L.A. for over a decade, had her man game down and knew the ropes.

Second, she went specifically after him. She didn't saddle up to every married rock star and try and make a go of it. Back then she had her sights set on that particular man. Was she "in love' or just obsessed? I am not a psychiatrist but I think at the time she thought she was in love with Mayte's husband, and that she and he were meant to be. I think after hearing a few verses of "Someone is delusional, lord, kum by yah" she woke up, came to her senses and divorced the man. At 29 she became independently wealthy, with more money then either of her parents ever made and a better house then they had after working a lifetime. She also probably drives the nicest car of any of the Testolini's.

That religion thing? Again she was 22 when she met P and 25 when they became baptized together. I don't think it was as much a shrewd move as a delusional one. A 36 year olf video vixen becoming a J.W??? lol lol lol is all I have to say to that cool

Great observation, but what you wrote makes me think even more that she was in love with Prince the Rock Star, not genuinely Prince the man. Maybe she was impressionable at 22 but to plot and plan and stalk took some brains and guts and she knew what she was doing. As far as the religion, from my understanding, you don't just jump in like that, she studied with him for some time, knew what Prince and the JWs were all about, yet once she breaks up with him she's no longer down with it. I just have a hard time believing she was down with it in the beginning. I give Mani mad props, I wish I was that bold since she's living this dream life so I'm not hatin. She's gorgeous and she and Eric look super happy. I'm just not buying the Mani was so young and innocent and geniune story. lol Prince used her too and paid the price. I was hoping he learned from it.....then came Bria. oh well.. can't win. lol

I am suprised no one has said it; she looks like she packed on a few pounds, less than ten. The results are that for the first time Mani is looking not only beautiful but sexy . Look at how much thicker her upper arm is in all the pics. Also look at the softness around her jawline and beneath her cheekbones. Gone is that slight "joker" look she sometimes had when she gave that wide smile. The little bit of fat in her face and body has taken years off of her aswell as added a more womanly look at the same time. She looks younger than she did at the Lakers game, Christmas day in 2004.

Manuela verses Halle and Vanity; God bless this woman because she will always be compared to these two extreme beauties, both of whom have huge amounts of charisma. Next to them she comes in last but I can think of MANY actresses and singers who have appeared on fashion magazine covers that Manuela is as beautiful as or more beautiful then.

Anyway, I absolutely love love love love love the new look and the hair. Her hair is the envy of the Kardashians and many other women who have to buy it (and it still doesn't look that good).

I also appretiate that this woman has yet to really stab Prince in the back. I applaud her for that. Had I heard the song "Sunday In The Park" sung by Tamar and written by Prince, I would not have been so nice. "The game of love can not be won by something she never had" was a painful line. I think he was never "in love" with Mani and just used her "Cinderella" good girl image as a beard to cover up what he was really doing in the park and in Panama with other chicks. She made him look like a good head-of -household down at the local Kingdom Hall. Sad.

Hurray for moving on with poise and dignity intact!

I liked Mani cause she seemed to be in love with Prince. I mean, she seemed focused on him and not getting her own piece of the fame pie. I think geniuinely, she cared about him and really believed she loved him. And maybe she did, who knows. But I never got from her the whole user-thing. Lots of young girls want to marry their idol, doesn't mean they only want to use them for fame. Some do find the men attractive, etc. The fact that she benefited from it financially is just a bonus of some sorts. I'm guessing she would have liked her marriage to work out...it just didn't, for whatever reasons.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Wow, I never heard Tamar's CD. So I didn't know the line.

I think Prince is being a little cruel. I think he loved Manuela as much as the others for a period of time. Otherwise, he would not have married the girl in Hawaii.

Of course, he has never really loved anyone the "right" way. I don't think he can unselfishly love anyone... it is not in his character to be that open. But not many people really do. Most of us gives an honest try. I don't think Prince gives it an honest try all the time.

I think he really tried with Manuela, (because he was trying so hard to be a good JW) and with Mayte (because it was that stage in life in which he WANTED to settle down and start a family.) He did the Muppet show during this time for God's sake... and built a nursery in Paisley Park. nod He wanted the whole wife and family. Was in love with the idea of love and family.

Agreed with everything here. Mani was a 22 love sick girl who was pretty enough and ambitious enough to snag her idol.

If I had my way... I would have been Mrs. Johnnie Wilder Jr. Except there was already a Mrs.

But that did not stop Mani. hmmm I guess it takes some ruthlessness and boldness.

Okay, I am going to stop there. This thread is to show love for Mani and Eric. smile

Right, I think she was in love with the rock star and protectively loved the man once the mask slipped and she saw the real Prince. But he wont' slow down with the chicks on the side... and I think as time went on she grew tired of it.

it is one thing to conform to a "prince woman" type when the man is satisfying whatever you need, love affection, emotional securtiy etc. But when you are making sacrifices on your own character, integrity, family ties etc for the man, AND HE IS LYING TO YOU AND CHEATING... well as you grow older, I think you just grow tired of it.

The fact that she got some financial gains from the marriage... well she should. He hooks up with these late teen women and sucks up all their youth (late teens and 20s) then tosses them as they approach 30. They should be compensated for that decade of life that they spent with him. Sorry, but I just believe if Prince wants to play, then he should pay. not just Prince... any man or woman.

'Cause at 40 something... Prince KNOWS the game... at 22, Mani (Mayte, Anna Fantastic, Nona Gaye) did not. He had an unfair advantage. And he used the promise of comfort that his money and fame can provide. They should at least get a helping hand as he is showing them the door.

Every one of those beautiful women could have married a successful younger man from their hometown that would have been more sincere in marriage and starting a family. A relationship with some staying power. But they wasted their youth and time on Prince's bullshit love game. I don't think they should just be dropped back off at the high school door that they were picked up 10 -12 years ago, but now 30 years old and the anchor title as "Prince's EX wife" without $OMETHING for all their trouble and heartache.

I for one, am glad to see Prince interested in 30 something women. Better than meeting a 16 year old... "waiting until she is 18" and then pouncing on her naive, inexperienced then ditching her when she gets a little age and independence in her.

I doubt that will happen. Seems he likes to be in control of everything surrounding his life. He seems to get bored with his relationships after about 5 years. There is NO NEED for him to marry at age 52. Pretty man isn't having anymore babies and he doesn't need a wife to qualify his existence. Leave him alone. lol

Wow, this thread has gone in a totally different direction!

Personally.... Okay. We ALL know who Prince is and how he operates with women. I don't think that ANY woman (I'm stressing WOMAN, so this would exclude Mayte who was only a teenager when they got together) whom he dates or marries, deserves a dime. Again. For decades, we've known who he is and what he's about. Deal with it or leave him alone. I'm not buying this innocence stuff, especially when one was college educated. She was no fool. And I actually like her! I just believe that the idea of spousal support is so archaic.

And isn't Eric getting spousal "support" too???? They're like two, extremely capable, welfare recipients throwing it in the faces of their exes. Maybe that's thier deal?

hmmm You do have a point there. And the way she pursued him, across 2 countries! (I know I am making it sound so dramatic... but it was 2 countries. Right?? lol )

I guess I will have to rethink this about Mani. And I also observed that both were thriving on spousal support.

What can one say? It is what it is.

I have to say, since Halle and Prince are both twice divorced and paying spousal support, they should not get married again... or at least marry each other. razz

Now on to Eric Benet. I have only heard him on youtube and I have no intention of buying his album. I also don't think many musicians buy his album either. Unlike Prince I think that the only person who will say that his music style had a huge influence on them is his daughter. This doesn't mean he should go back to delivering Christmas packages. It just means that maybe there is a reason why he plays state fairs while Prince plays arenas.

Comparing him to Bobby McKnight was perfect. They are both fine enough and not all that famous. Name recognition is not proof of talent. Sadly I never heard of Solomon Burke until he died and he was a very talented singer. I also never heard of Betty Davis, who I think should be thought of as a funk legend, until I read a thread about her hair on the org.

I lost alot of my Marvin Gaye collection, need some Solomans Burke, Betty Davis, Sam Cooke, and many many more before I even think of buying any Eric Benet.

1) I'm reading your comments about him within this context.

2) You're wrong. EB very often has some serious musicians cropping up on his projects. He's been around in R&B for a good while, even had a duo with his sister (they performed under "Benet") before he went solo. One of my former bandmates and music buds loves EB's work as much for its production as he does for EB's singing.

3) Very wise comment. Non-talent-related factors (everything from timing, luck, connections and a willingness to screw people over) could place two similarly talented performers in totally different strata.

Because he is gen-Eric.

Dude has a great voice. Without a doubt he does. That said, his tracks are very safe and middle of the road. He doesn't branch out musically. He's got some good songs but always falls short with his up-tempo cuts. He's essentially a ballad singer.

To his credit, "Sometimes I Cry" is a better ballad than anything Prince has dropped in a long time.

And oddly, he kind of sounds like Prince in that track. When I first heard it, I thought it was Prince for a second. confused

The song sounds like an excellent Prince imitation to me - the style is so Prince. Wonder if Eric is getting a dig in there? Love Eric Benet. Saw him live and he's hot!

I don't think spousal support is unending. Generally, in marriages less than 5 years the court will only order support for half the length of the marriage. That's without a prenup. A prenup would probably specify the max amount the (ex)spouse can receive. Once they get the speified settlement amount they can't get anymore.

I never ever bought a Prince album in the 80"s because he was famous and I thought "well it's all going to be pop stuff meant for radio" why waste my money when the best of it is probably on the radio lol ! I ALWAYS bought the people who maybe had one single but alot of interesting stuff that was not radio friendly. I had absolutely no idea for nearly 30 years, the scope of Prince's music.

I am glad that Eric has his fans. I can only buy about one fourth of what I would loooove to own, there is no room for maybes in my tiny apartment.

How can you guys compare a legend like Prince who won many awards and has been inducted in the hall of fame to a puppet like Eric Benet whom my neighbors, coworkers, friends have never heard of and have absolutely no interest in knowing?????

Why are you getting so bent out of shape over a simple comparison? You act like somebody just stole your bike hmm

nod for realz!

I think Eric fine as wine and would love to take a sip. I hope he and Mani make a baby together.

You're missing one key element...these WOMEN (all were well over the age of 18) had free will. They choose to be with Prince and conform to his way...I have NO sympathy for them. Non of them were complaining when they were spending his millions now were they? And they all knew well in advance how Prince thought a woman should be. If they didn't like it, they should have not used him for his cash and found them one of those "young, successful men." Prince deserves better than that too.

We don't know if any of these women really loved him, they could have put on a great front for the cameras and made him look like the bad guy. All this "woe is me, Prince made me wear his clothes, he starved me, he controlled me, blah, blah, blah." Give me a effing break! They sure didn't mind it when he was dropping millions to get their non-talented asses a album recorded now were they?

Age has nothing to do with it, they were mature enough to work their way into his bed, they should have been mature enough to deal with the complications that came along with it.

And no, unless they contributed to his success, they don't deserve a damn bit of his money...unless they had kids with him, which they didn't. I hope he had a pre-nup!!

Any young lady married to a rich older man has the full ability to go to college and make something of herself while married to this man since they don't have to worry about money. There are no excuses. None.

If all they were were gold digging tramps, then yeah, he should have dropped their asses back off in the gutter they came from. The key word being IF...

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say?

[Edited 11/25/10 0:00am]

She was a teen when she met him...not a teen when they got married. She was capable of making her own decisions and did. There are PLENTY of teenage girls that are in relationships now that don't deal with the crap Mayte "claimed" to have had to deal with (or others claim she endured). There are no excuses for any of the women that have been in his life...education or no education. Going to college does not mean you have experience with an older man or have any more wisdom when it comes to a relationship. So why excuse one exwife, but not the other? Both were in their 20s when they married P.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

One thing is that not all woman see womanizing as the end of the world. Jackie O went into both her marriages knowing that her men were filthy rich and skirt chasers. She was raised to think that all men cheat and she picked the best of the cheaters I guess.

I don't know how these women were raised. Mayte said her parents sent her to live at Paisley at 17 because they trusted him. Either they are fools or they were more worried about there little Star Search Contestant's career then they were about her heart or anything else.

Different people have different values. Many of Prince's woman have a sort of "don't ask, don't tell" way of dealing with his ways from what I can see. It's when he gets so very blatant about it that he has the wife in another place while he is running around LA with his new coochie that they scream uncle. I mean he writes songs for his playthings that make it clear he is cheating on his wife. If you stay after that point you clearly have an open relationship.

Neither of those wives were blind and both knew all about his past. When a woman in her 20's lies to herself and believes he will be different with her, well I am a bit sympathetic. But no way in hell do I have sympathy for a woman over 30 that marries a blatant skirt chaser and then gets all crazy when there is talk of someone else. Prince always has at least 3 women, never 1 and seldom 2 for long.

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.
