Love it!

i like the song. This is a case where I would have liked to hear Prince's vocal treatment though. She doesn't really have a defined enough voice for the song.

i think the lyrics are interesting. i like how the first words are come in and the last is go. the part about being pulled into the future is intriguing, no? the song reminds me of a meditation on the breath and ocean.

the song 4ever seems to have related themes. together they seem to give hints of the new world, that it's in the future but accessible in the now.

there seems to be a lot of nines in the song -- it's the 9th song, 9 letters, "in2 the new world" is repeated 9 times.

I like the song Immersion as well but for some reason Kept Woman is the catchy tune for me. I like Immersion, but I think Prince was needed in that song. For example, Elixir sounded so much nicer because Prince was able to vocally colorize the song with his wonderul octave abilities. The song without Prince sounded flat.

in my opinion, out of all his great talents, background singing is one of prince's greatest gifts. one of the most moving languages his soul speaks. but i am a voice person as far as instruments go.

The religious dominant aspect of Prince is his least appealing to me.

I like this song, only if the person getting baptised was sincere and not only doing it as a way to get close to Prince.

thanks for bringing this up. my initial reaction to many songs including this one is, creepy, but then i get intrigued and creepy is overruled.

this song really highlights the relationship of sexual and spiritual to me. i mean, is it just me or can it be taken as sexual and/or spiritual? from what i can tell, many prince songs seem to imply that sex and spirit are rarely separate -- i'm not claiming to know if that is true or not, but i get the feeling from many religions that sex is not the greatest of spiritual experiences. or does he simply use sexual imagery to illustrate other things because he's so fluent in that language? in my personal experience, i feel that many beautiful spiritual things have no hint of sexual energy, but perhaps my idea of "sexual" is too narrow?

i mean, to me this song is about entering the new world, the dawn, an ultimate state of a spiritual journey. and i wonder if it's trying to say that this is an orgasm, or that it's something "more" but that an orgasm is the closest experience it can be compared to.

pardon my confusion but any enlightenment about this is appreciated.

I guess it has been a decade by now, since Prince was raving about Moors and colonialism and such. Whether then or on Tavis' show rambling about chem-trails, Prince is unwavering in his conviction that his philosophies are unassailable.

I also suppose, contrasted with his "gemini" (stridently hyper-sexual/occasionally religious) image of the 1980s, the latest incarnation as a JW (stridently religious/occasionally sensual) image represents growth to Prince. He's twisted longtime hits' lyrics to convey more in winking euphemisms but still tends to maintain the spirit of a passage.

But, he's consistently clung to the model of a woman adhering to his philosophies; their minds and lifestyles become his own type of colony (ironically enough), which makes "Immersion" sound more like a cult initiation than a religious breakthrough or conversion. Given that Bria sings some of his most sexual lyrics in some years on her album, the premise of "Immersion" just doesn't ring true to me.

If it is to be read biographically (and that's a big stretch), it does come off as the pair scratching off a perfunctory rite in order to get to the carnal fare that's really on their brains. That's fairly hard to dress up as revelatory, but the keyboard parts are nice.

i think its not uncommon, and maybe not unfair to want someone whom you're deeply intimate with to share the same main beliefs. but yes, for example the lyrics for everytime seem to be promoting the idea that a man should have Total control over his woman -- soul body and mind! which theoretically works fine if god has total control of the man, but how does one know? i won't get into that. i do notice that trend you mentioned, and suppose it's just what works best for prince. i sure don't want to be colonized but some people seem real comfortable with it. on the other hand he seems to have different expectations, a different kind of respect for other women, those with a more professional or business relationship.

yes. sometimes i wonder if (or hope?) it's prince's intention to somewhat subliminally weave in some eternal truths into a temporal tapestry, if that's his style of ministry to slip some vitamins in with the candy if you will. if that were the case, immersion could have some vitamins.

its just i really like the idea of remembering some pure state of truth within that doesn't rely on outer things, doesn't require sex or drugs or religion but is rather just everyone's birthright that can be discovered by simply saying you believe or observing your breath or somethin simple like that. so i'm intrigued by... the voice -- is it The Voice? the call -- is it The Call? i like songs like this but my perception of sexual is so limited that i get confused whenever sexual is seemingly woven in. but hey, this style may be just what some people need...
