I'm sayin'!!! He didn't even have any lines in "purple rain"!!! As far as how he was treated; well, pick up a copy of "d.m.s.r." lol.

As far as him being the hottest, I'd have to disagree with you on that.

I remember an interview that Mark gave to Black Beat magazine in 1987,when his solo album was released. He seemed REALLY bitter about his Prince/Revolution days."I wasn't fired,I quit",he said.He went on to list a bunch of things that he apparently didn't like about working with Prince...

***He claimed that he never received any royalties for the 'ATWIAD' and 'Parade' albums, even though they are,for the most part, considered to be "Prince And The Revolution" albums.

***He claimed that Mazarati was HIS creation, but then Prince found out about them and tried to take too much control ("He made them dress like that",Mark says).

***He claimed that Wendy was given preferential treatment, even though he had been in the band since 1981.

BrownMark always looked unhappy being in the Revolution, like he wanted to be somewhere else...lol...

Bottom line: Mark Brown and EVERY OTHER ARTIST that work for Prince has a career because they were with Prince. Mazarati would not have beena reality if Prince did pull Mark out of some stinking Mpls bar and give him a job playing bass in his band. Brown is good but so are thousands of other brothers that no one ever hears or sees without a break from like the one Prince gave him. Anything produced in Prince's house is, in part, Prince's - let's face it: the strongest cut on the album is 100 mph that Prince wrote.

What happend to those artists that were "wronged" by Prince when they were in his camp after they leave his camp? Ask Andre Cymone that next time you are super sizing your lunch order.

Brown Mark My Moments:On Donnie Simpson back in 87&Yes I still got it on Tape somewhere Brown Named the People He was digging at the Time such as Earth,Wind&Fire,Cameo&Michael Jackson. He said MJ was the Man&He Loved His Performance on Motown 25.Yeah Prince really did Him dirty especially during the Parade Tour putting Him in the Dark out of sight.but they Patched things up but Brown was truly Pissed at Him back in 87.on His Debut Album which I use to have Brown thanked everybody under the Sun In Minneapolis except Prince&that Spoke Volumes.the Next Album Prince wrote "Shall We Dance"&"Bang,Bang"&they made Up.but for a while there was Strong Resentment.I have that Black Beat as well&Brown said that He could have stayed with Prince's band but didn't want to.also Mazerati's Album was done&In the Can.I Read about it being finished back in 84.it was suppose to be the First Release on Paisley."Players Ball" was tight as well."100MPH" was a tight Cut as well for the time.

Mark Brown's currently selling some of his old records through Ebay. He also now owns the masters to the Mazarati album and his 2 solo albums, Just Like That and Good Feeling. If you email him through the 'ask seller a question' link, he emails back with a list of items for sale. He is selling copies from the 3 albums direct from the masters to CDr, but is still awaiting permission to be able to copy '100 MPH', 'Bang Bang', and 'Shall We Dance'.

Maybe, if and when he gets permission, we might finally see a widely available CD reissue of Mazarati.

I got to disagree with some of what your saying. Jam & Lewis would have never have stayed and worked as produces for Prince. If you read the recent interview that Jellybean Johnson gave all of these guys have out of control egos. If they were coming to physical blows while the Time project was going on there is no why they could have all worked together.

Jam & Lewis have falled off in recent years. The stuff they have done with Janet Jackson has been horrible. Andre Cymone ruined his career when left Jody Whatley and Jesse Johnson would have to get off the drugs before he can be productive again.

Brown Mark was treated badly by Prince back in the day. Obviously they've worked through those issues. If Brown Mark were still angry, he wouldn't have shown up at Paisley for the Revolution "mini reunion" at the 2000 Celebration.

But really, what can Mark do? There's no way that Prince can ever un-do the mistreatment that he dished out. Brown Mark is not the only person who has claimed that Prince mistreated them. The way that he treated (or mistreated) his fellow man while on this earth is something Prince will have answer for one of these days.

Actually,BrownMark and Prince apparently patched up their differences in the late 80s when Prince contributed two songs to BrownMarks' 1989 album: "Bang,Bang" and "Shall We Dance".

In fact, Laura, you make a valid point about Jam & Lewis..

who can say if they've "fallen off" in recent years..
minimally, they definitely have repeated themselves enough times, repeated that same "formula" for more than 1 artist. They have become rather predictable & thus, "boring"..
so we could say that this qualifies as "falling off"!
smile

I didn't know Jesse was (is) having a drug problem. If that's true, then that's really unfortunate. He's a superb guitar player, & he's made his share of good (solo) music.

I am still praying for a reunion of the
ORIGINAL
Time..
as unlikely as that probably is...

Mark did a promotional tour in 1987. Somewhere I should have a VHS tape with an interview that was broadcasted on MTV Europe. The interviewer was someone called Sophie Bramley. Can't remember what they discussed.
Mark wasn't maybe the hottest band member, but he certainly was the funkiest bass player Prince ever had. Look how he moves...
