That makes the band moniker Brass Monkey fit a little better. I wonder if there's anymore info on this page of the Purple History Book... If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

True, but notice how she did not want to stand up when Patti LaBelle was talking to her?
Don't get me wrong; I have no idea how much of a falling out they had or even if they really had one. The story goes that Prince got into a fight with Gilbert Davison and wanted Sheila to choose sides, which she wouldn't do, and that caused the rift. But that's just what I've heard around here.

I did notice that, but I think that she was just being coy.
The showdown between Gilbert and Prince did happen, but that was the summer of 94 and involved the ownership of Glam Slam. When it was all said and done, employees of Paisley Park were sent packing and Gilbert owned it, and renamed it The Quest. Sheila did still frequent the club. TRUE BLUE

Apparently, there was only one session, but Prince being Prince, it is likely that more was recorded than just one track.

It's also interesting to me that Prince was able to release both 8 and 16 in 1987, with little fanfare and no publicity surrounding his involvement. Given that he wasn't able to release a triple album that same year but instead had to reduce it to a double, the fact that he was able to release these two albums is kind of bizarre, in a way. Then considering there were some protegee releases that year as well, it speaks to how incredibly prolific he was that year (granted, I know Jill Jones' album had been recorded earlier, but still).

His output in 87 was very impressive, but I don't think that 87 was his most prolific year, but even so. As for Madhouse, I cannot remember the albums being released in 87, (i know they were) but I seem to remember hearing of them for the first time around Lovesexy (88-89). I guess I was slow off the mark. Lol.

If he was serious about keeping his involvement in Madhouse a secret, Prince shouldn't have released them on Paisley Park. That's like mostly a dead give-away. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

Yeah,Sheila and Prince went through some drama in the mid-90s.It started when Prince and his best friend/business partner Gilbert Davison had a bitter falling out. They co-owned the Glam Slam nightclub together but when they stopped being friends,Prince removed all of his memorabilia from the club and Gilbert became the sole owner.Gilbert was friends with Sheila E. and he planned for her to perform there. This did NOT sit well with Prince.Sheila was caught in the middle of their bitter feud.In a 1995 Internet chat session, she revealed that she was "no longer allowed at Paisley Park, but I still love him" They have since worked out their differences, but this incident shows you how childish and unreasonable Prince can be when he doesn't get his way.

I absolutely love 6, it just has a feel to it that is very expressive. Leeds has an incredible sound and to me his input was absolutely vital to Madhouse, but from his statements, i for one do not share his particular taste in music lol. I love 6. Like 16. Like the first version of 24. Hate the second version of 24, and feel absolutely nothing for Times squared and Things Left Unsaid, just to plain white bread for my tastes.

I could have sworn the single for "6" was actually released in the fall of 86. I remember borrowing the 12 inch and Teena Marie's "Emerald City" album from my cousin in LA, and Im pretty sure that visit was in Sept or Oct of 86.
6 got major airplay on black stations in SoCal. Along with Herb Alpert's instrumental from 86 (sorry, dont remember the name) and Kenny G, I couldnt believe instrumental music was actually kinda mainstream at the time. May be why WB allowed 16 to come out so quickly.
And BET played the 10 and 13 videos pretty consistently too.
One of my all time fav Prince productions, 8 and 16 are the CDs I give to folks who argue that Michael Jackson is better than Prince. They may not dig jazz, but after listening, they usually understand the difference between an artist and an entertainer.

Hi, I'm a bad person and never got round to buying these when they were out (I think I could only find albums and I didn't have a record player - only a cassette player - poor student ) but I really wished that I had just bought them anyway. How can get to listen to all the music from Madhouse now ? Thanks U know there ain't no other

She still had some kinda dealing with Prince after Lovesexy
There is was an all female 'protege' band with Robin Powers going into GB, their style of dress was similar to Cats during Lovesexy and the ladies were interviewed and mentioned that during one of their rehearsals Sheila E and a friend dropped by the studio to listen in.

"That was a much more organic album. That came up from spontaneous sessions with Prince, myself, Sheila E and Prince’s bass player at the time, Levi Seacer. The four of us went into the studio over two or three days and just played and everything on the second Madhouse album came from those sessions." - That could be why "8" is a better liked album than "16" . I dig "16" and I understand why Eric would say he liked that recording process better....however "16" got "kooky" in some spots. P's use of certain keyboard sounds made me cringe then and now. Had P probably recorded some stuff 1st and then have the others "execute" what he had done then "16" may have faired better.
