Just some of the titles on the new album. I cannot wait for this album. Paul is saying by August 1, it will be mixed, so I'm hoping by October or November for a release. It HAS to be this year. This is 25 years since the first album. It MUST be released this year!

They should go old school and release a album single with a B side not on the track.

I wonder can they record a live version of a song from the Family and release it as a B side

Already did that - twice...more or less.

1. One Nation Under A Groove 6:20
2. Fire 4:17
3. Soul Power 6:37
4. River Run Dry 1:38
5. Screams Of Passion 4:31
6. Nothing Compares 2 U 5:15
7. High Fashion 5:43
8. Mutiny 5:33
9. Jungle Love 3:55
10. Ten 7:48
11. She's Strange 7:04
12. DMSR 7:08
13. Erotic City 5:04
14. America 4:49

The Regulator (previously unreleased)
Rich Man
Stranger To Love
Can't Get Enough
Blue Cadillac
Every Heart Needs a Home
Forgive Me (previously unreleased)
The Family Medley LIVE (River Run Dry-Screams of Passion-Nothing Compares 2U- High Fashion-Mutiny)
Shooting Star
Intimacy
Tell Me
@8 (with Fdeluxe)

I believe the stuff on St. Paul's album is lifted from The Truth's album, which he's part of as well. And I'm gonna say this here: The version of "High Fashion/Mutiny" on The Truth's album is OFF THE HOOK!. One of the best versions of those songs I've EVER heard, Prince's included. I played in on my Prince birthday show (Undisputed Part 2), and the Orgers on the phone (and in the chat room) that hadn't heard it were loving it.

Just as a follow up on that:

They are really concentrating on the new stuff. These guys have lived, sang, ignored, and rethought the first album for 25 years now. They still perform those songs live, and do quite well at it. I've seen folks in the chat room ask repeatedly "Are you going to release 'Miss Understood'??" or whatever. No, they're not. Prince has those songs. They're not in anyone's vault but his own. If they wanted to do that, they'd have approached Prince to do it. (Let's also remember Susannah is the one who asked Prince to not release that song after she recorded it because she wasn't happy with the vocals at all - and he said, "Cool", and didn't.)

Once you hear all the new material, and the band playing as a band and not playing someone else's music, you'll have a whole new found love for these guys, and will appreciate their talent even more. I mean, when you have Eric blowin' his horn, and Jellybean beatin' the shit outta the drums, Susannah writing awesome lyrics and putting vocal icing on everything, and Paul playing guitar, keyboards, bass, and more - you can't go wrong. Even Paul's string sections for the songs give Clare a bit of a run for his money (although let's be real - no one can do it like Clare Fisher can).

If folks don't like this new record, I'd venture to say they either DON'T wanna like it, or they're just dead inside. The new record is going to really give the first one something to think about. Yeah, it's THAT good.

Oh man I'm already loving the new stuff, I've heard a lot of the pieces and I'm loving it and have no hopes of comparison... not really.

I'm just talking about getting something out in our hands 'like a Single/Bside' that preceeds the album

I'm loving the art direction/photography,

When I interviewed Steve Parke on my radio show, he mentioned when he heard the group was getting back together, he called Paul and said, "I gotta get in on this with you guys". Steve took a lot of the pictures posted here. However, there are some other awesome pictures of the group in a club that Susannah's husband, musician Doyle Bramhall II, took himself.

I think they are really recapturing the old style of the first album, but also bringing it in a more adult and grown-up kind of way. Paul even described the album as grown people loving; yet it still retains the funky and fun side that the first album had. That goes for the pictures for sure. It isn't a reunion album - it really evokes the feeling that these same folks you once knew have been hanging out all this time, and this is where they're at right now. I love that feeling of freshness yet continuity.

PS I'm going to re-air Parke's interview, in its more original form on Side Show sometime in the not-too-distant future. I had to cut it down a lot for the show and timing issues, but we talked for 70 minutes. People wanted to hear more of his Prince stories, so I will re-air it. I had no idea Steve had been around since 1987. He painted the stage for the "Glam Slam" video over 3 sleepless days and nights.

I just changed their myspace page's default pic to one of the Doyle pics. I know I have a few more around here, I'll see what I can find.

If you follow the band on either Myspace, Twitter or Facebook you will NOT miss out on anything band related. We do try to get the word out to everyone when something is happening.

Those of who have tuned into the live broadcasts have seen first hand this album being worked on and that's how people have heard so much of the album.

To my knowledge, which is limited of course because I am no spokesperson for them, I don't think Prince has had any real reaction to them being back together. They've been asked a lot about Prince being involved (even silly stuff like "Are you going to release "Miss Understood" or "Can you put the 12'' of 'Screams of Passion' on the record as a bonus track?" - short answer NO), and honestly - they don't need Prince involved, nor are they looking to have that happen. It's not a snotty thing on their part, but the past is the past with that.

Folks either forget, take for granted, just don't know, or demote them and refuse to acknowledge how talented these folks are on their own, and the music backs that up 110%. I would imagine Prince wouldn't be part of it anyway. I don't think this album is one of those "we're proving ourselves to you" sort of thing, but it will prove they're a band in their own right, by default. The people who are involved are more than capable of course. Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Oliver Leiber (formerly of Ta Mara and the Seen; check the Paula Abdul thread for more on this guy, his father was part of Leiber & Stoller), Doyle Bramhall II, plus Paul, Susannah, Jellybean, and Eric. I mean really - who needs Prince at that point? lol

For me, what I've gathered, is that it's not about Prince anyway. They've said as much without being rude or disrespectful toward Prince (nor should anyone ever take it that way), and they're right. This isn't about Prince. It's about the fan base wanting them to do something, AND even moreso about them realizing they still have a great chemistry together. They realized that at the 2002 Family Jamm that Sheila E. organized. So you can really thank her in a round about way. ?uestlove pushed them to do something as well at a Grammy pre-party they played at (another one-off gig that led to more). It was after that when they announced they were going to reform. Prince cannot stop them from working together. They did contact Prince when this got going more in the past couple of years, and asked about the name, but Prince being the dick he is certain things, he said no. Why? We have no idea. It could be a grudge w/ Paul. It could be his past relationship w/ Susannah, which is weird since he's worked w/ her twin sister in recent years, as well as the twin's girlfriend aka Wendy & Lisa. It could be for anything, or for nothing. But right now, it's a moot point. The F in Fdeluxe stands for Family, in a way. 25 years later, they're a better version of who they were back then (aren't we all, or at least hope we are?). Musically, it will be familiar to everyone, but still be new and fresh. It's a perfect melding of old and new. And it just happened that way. No one planned to try and remake The Family or be a reunion act like whoever out there. Fdeluxe is just different, that's all. Prince isn't part of that. Frankly, I don't want him in it. It'd mess up the flow they have going, which is rich with respect, talent, humor, and love for the fans.

Prince can prevent them using the name. As far as the name, this is my educated opinion:

Prince doesn't own the name "The Family". As we know there was another band before this one called The Family (there's even another band called Madhouse). What I believe to be true is that he owns the rights to those people calling themselves "The Family"; that version or any similarity to the group we know as "The Family". If another group of random people came together and used that name, Prince couldn't do anything about it.

Agreed. Paul is good about updating stuff on Facebook, whether it's his personal page, Fdeluxe's page, or his fan page (under St. Paul Peterson). I'm so grateful and thankful and downright giddy about the whole thing. A lot of Prince folks have ventured out on their own. Some have done better than others, but this project is one I truly believe in 110%, and will always champion.

We'll also be posting info here on the Org of course cool

In fact, this is where we announced the reformation of the band back in 2006 after they tore the stage UP at the Family Jamm back in 2003. I was standing in the front row at the Family Jamm and NO ONE there could have ever dreamed that they would come out and level the joint like they did. The live shows to promote the new album are going to be SICK!!!

I was drunk off my ass that night but WOW did they f*ck it up at the Family Jamm! I went in way hyped for the Revolution but went home singin "Screams of Passion". Susannah's hip-swingin...enuff said.err err err

Great info ernest. It's obvious these folks dont need Prince to make this happen in a big way, there's just that part of me that wishes this guy wasnt such a prick and would just shut the f*ck up, plug in his guitar and play. I mean REALLY get the FAMILY back together!!!

Think about it. If old friends of yours who you had helped break through have muddled thru over the years, never reaching that so called pinnacle of success, but still staying true to themselves and their art (and enjoying themselves in the process), decide to get back together the way you put them together all those years ago...wouldnt you want to just jam with em?

I dont know...maybe Im just silly.
