Does Sheila try to act like Prince?

In your oppion, does Sheila E. seem to mimic Prince?

I was watching "Krush Groove" when my friend implied "She always does that, always acts like Prince!" It was a scene where their rehearsing "Holly Rock" The only thing that seemed "Prince-like" to me, was this laugh she did. Sounded like something Prince would have done in UTCM. lol

"Would you hold it agaisnt me, if I said I loved another?" ♥

Maybe Prince tries to act like Sheila but we assume the reverse because we're more familiar with him.

Of course. Not purposely, but he did rehearse her as a front woman of her own band. His moves were her moves. Watch the San Francisco video when Prince and the Revolution comes on stage. She follows his lead on everything. He's totally in charge.

That's not to say she doesn't have her own style, but back then - she was the female Prince (no - Vanity was not, to me).

Well, seems like prince tends to have a female counterpart in many of his different eras -

Vanity during the 1999, Controversy era and Sheila e during the PR, Parade, SOTT and Ingrid Chavez with his whole Graffitii Bridge thing.

Carmen Electra suited his Diamonds and Pearls era because it was a concerted effort by Prince to be commercial and Carmen's definetily a showgirl type. Mayte with his whole symbol album and the early 90's fascination with all things middle eastern....

They all seem to have the kind of image and attitude that Prince shows through his music and image at the time.

So yeah, i think she did try to be a counterpart to prince, you can see it in interviews from that era i think. Maybe not necesserily intentionally though.

is the water warm enough?

I think at first Prince groomed her to be more like a female Morris. In her 1984 live shows, she would do that birdlike cackle ("ah-ha-ha!") and interject "Good God!" a lot. Much of how she acted seemed to be akin to what Morris was doing (and how he was hamming it up) in Purple Rain. With Romance 1600, she really became more Princely.

When she performed "Lady Marmalade" on Arsenio's show, she was straight up channeling Prince. I like that performance a lot. I think she was wanting to show herself as the leader of a tight band, so she turned to an authority on that and borrowed some of his moves.

Krush Groove, it's obvious that she is imitating Prince. It's like he instructed her to watch a rehersal video of him and imitate.

Just like The Family vocals sound like an imitation of Prince.
