Kim Basinger

I've heard about the existence of a Kim Basinger unreleased album written, produced and played by Prince. Per Nilsen doesn't mention anything in his book DMSR. What's the story? Is it a fake?

This is from 1989 when Kim and Prince were dating. The boot is called HOLLYWOOD AFFAIR. They were pretty hot for awhile, but she probably couldn't handle his obsession.

Heard they were engaged at one time, is this true???

DMSR only went through Lovesexy and I'm guessing that any album with Prince would have been completed after Lovesexy. I honestly don't know if they did anything or not.

The item in question is an unreleased album by Kim Basinger called "The Color Of Sex", which is also the title of one of the songs on that record.

Prince's involvement as a songwriter/producer on "The Color Of Sex" is highly unlikely since the overall production of the album bears none of the hallmarks of a bona fide Prince production. Instead, the record sounds like something Jam & Lewis would have knocked out in their sleep for Janet Jackson. The songs themselves have not aged that well. Most of the drum machine beats sound like rifle-shots, the tell-tale sign of a very dated "80's" production..

TURN IT UP 2.0. does clearly state that Prince had "nothing to do" with the Kim Basinger album.

The only confirmed Prince/Basinger collaborations so far have been one extended mix of "Soul Psychodelicide" ( the one where Basinger has worked herself to a lather and can be heard chanting the title of the song over and over at the beginning of the song). The other is the officially released "Scandalous Sex Suite"

Levi Seacer Jr. used to do a lot of the playing and production on Prince projects at that time. I wouldn't be surprised if the tracks were mostly Levi's work with maybe a little Prince input.

As a bass player it is hard to fault Levi Seacer Jr, but the guy's production values and what passed as, ahem, songwriting always left a lot to be desired. In my opinion, Prince allowed Levi too much leeway during that period and that was a mistake. Artistically and production-wise, those were very dark days indeed.

I have this album Sabotage Records released it in 1996. It is called Hollywood Affair. She has a horrible voice, I can see why Warner never released it.

Check it out. http://guide2prince.org/main2.html

As far a them being engaged, I never heard anything of that nature. I do know she was floating around Chanhassen in 1989 for quite some time.

Both Levi and that other songwriting genius, Tony Mosley, dragged Prince to court. Unfortunately for these two the amount of money they were awarded was barely sufficient for them to cover the cost of their legal fees.

Oh, and would you believe it, it was over unpaid songwriting royalties... 'Sexy MF' being one of the songs in contention. Kinda makes your skin crawl.

NO INVOLVEMENT.

Isn't there still a Prince FAQ?

If so, I presume this is in it, or it should be.

Prince and Kim were to be wed but what I had read, and I forget from were and when ( of course ), was that she dumped him. I think there is also a good amount of detail of that relation ship in the book Purple Reing.

Yes maybe prince had nothing to do with her album, but the drum sound used on "Hollywood Affair" is THE SAME as the P outtake "Dance with the Devil" ..
And wasn't Dance with the Devil a Batman Outtake? Isn't that how he met her? hmm Yep just something to think about

that early 90's track. what was it called again???

I have the song "Soul Psychodelicide" on one of my boots. This version has Kim Basinger at the beginning. She moans then repeats the title over and over. She sing something like "the active pump of sheer delight"...lol...it's rather funny.

Based on this one recording,I don't think I want to hear the whole unreleased album she made.

I think the Was not Was track in question is "Shake Your Head". I had heard that this track originally had a dodgy Madonna vocal on it but she didnt give them the permission to release it so they used KB instead.
