Sex Shooter - Vanity Version

The original Sex Shooter single with Vanity singing lead and Prince singing background is awesome, funky. Make u wanna say Dammmmnnnnnn. They should have stayed together if not for love just for the incredible music they were making................

The music on the A6 version is far superior, i love that synth riff.

You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

Obviously the quality of the recording of the A6 version is far superior, But I think that Vanity's vocal delivering of the song is MUCH better. Even with the crappy tape hiss of the version I have I still prefer it to Apples version. Also the Guitar is turned up a little higher in the V6 version and I feel like it's that riff that really drives the song.

Wish someone who new how to do such things would clean up the Vanity version of this track

The Vanity version is excellent! Alot funkier and much more convincing than the Apollonia 6 version.

Exactly, Vanity's singing is more at ease she's much more comfortable with it. Priceless. Prince singing background:lol:

Yep nod Vanity was a genuine "nasty girl".She wasn't just playing a role.On the Apollonia 6 version,Apples doesn't sound comfortable singing those lyrics. She especially sounds out of place near the end, when she says...."I can't hear yoooooouuuuu......all the nasty people sing, yeah" disbelief I still think it's sad that we never got a second Vanity 6 album. It would have been outrageous!

I bet that,if we gotten a second Vanity 6 album,Side One might have looked like this:

Sex Shooter

Vibrator

G-Spot

at the end of "Vibrator",we can hear the beginning of "G-Spot" which makes me think that there is a Vanity 6 version of that song. The album would have been incredible!! Somewhat of a concept album, since those three tunes are thematically linked.

Vanity would have freaked Purple Rain! Sorry, Apples. Its true.

V's version of Sex Shooter is the best by far because its hers. You hear her personality in her songs. No offense to Apples but she was playing Vanity in the movie and in her Apollonia 6 career. Er'body knows that if P & V weren't on the outs, that would have been all Vanity.

Had to see so I just put the vinyl on and played the Vanity 6 version. I love 'em both, but that Vanity 6 version is funky and raw as hell!!! I've got to go with V6 on this one. The Manic Monday is pretty tight as well...

It really doesn't matter who's version was the best. Vanity 6

sucked ass with the exception of Nasty Girl. I can't even believe

people got duped into buying that album unless you wanted to jerkoff

Most of those tunes sounded like Prince demos with them singing off

the wall shit to them. I dug Nasty Girl but the rest of that album was

straight shit. Vanity was definitely fine. I found Brenda to be the

cutest. Ironically P was dating her before he met Vanity.

eek you don't like the songs "Wet Dream","He's So Dull" and the hilarious "If A Girl Answers (Don't Hang Up)"?? I think,in many ways, the Vanity 6 album was ahead of its time. The music is very edgy and adventurous. No girl group at the time sounded like that.

was Prince really dating Brenda? She was married to Roy Bennett, the guy who did the lights for Prince's tours! lol

Prince dated Susan. Not Brenda.

You're right. I always got Brenda and Susan mixed up. Prince actually dated Susan. Susan

was the cutest one to me with the long jet black hair. Sorry Wet Dream and He's So Dull were

dull. Those songs were horrible imo. The lyrics were edgy but come on vocally they were

a mess. Not to turn this into a rivalry but the Mary Jane Girls were 3 times better than

Vanity/Appolonia 6.

Oh,I agree, the Mary Jane Girls were better vocalists lol I heard that Vanity 6 were so lousy in a live setting that,on the '1999' tour,Jill Jones was hiding backstage behind a curtain, singing along with the girls to make them sound better.Jill can actually sing.

Despite their vocal limitations, their album is great.....an exciting combination of funk,New Wave and pop styles, with alot of attitude and sexy lyrics.

Yeah Vanity owned that song.

Vanity also was into the group/the band, Apollonia was just there for the 1 time movie
