The Glamorous Life Appreciation Love this song from Sheila great song and it really showcases her talents on percussions- some Ms. E I think her work with Prince was destiny-they are great together.

I love the whole Glamorous Life project
the image the direction, all the songs include 2 Sexy
Romance 1600 did not live up to the Glamorous Life, there isn't one song on this album that isn't good.
But again this was the Purple Reign so...

I think this is one of the best Starr Company tracks, pure perfection!!! Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Yeah Romance was not really up to speed but still okay. I seem to prefer the Glamorous Life to all of Sheila's work

I'm not the biggest Sheila (vocals) fan, but I dig it well enough. I do nothing professionally. I only do things for fun. johnart: Acrylic's old bras is where tits of all sizes go to frolic after they die. Tit Heaven.

I've got nothing but the deepest love for this song. I will never, ever get tired of it. Ever.

Does anyone know when the Club Mix version of this song was done? The alternate version that is on the CD? It wasn't included on the vinyl, of course, and I don't remember seeing a 12-inch version of this song (actually, I do remember one, but I thought it just had the full album version of the song on it, not a remix). So was the club version made in '84 and was it available then? Or was it a remix done just for the CD release?

Back in elementary school, me and some classmates would play the famous horn line on the marimba (the multi-colored toy-like version for 8 year olds). We all learned and played it by ear during recess...Good times.

It's one of the protege songs I think holds up with the best of Prince's own work.

the Glamorous Life(album) & Purple Rain as concept albums have the best direction and vision
Ice Cream Castles is a good album but doesn't feel like a journey the way ^^ does. Or even What Time Is It?
Vanity 6 felt like a concept you could get into their space, whereas Apollonia 6 didn't have that
Songs like Blue Limousine, Sex Shooter, A Million Miles are ace, if Manic Monday 17 Days and a few of the other songs were on there, it would have been a killer album with an even more defined direction than V6

okay, I heard this song on the radio this AM and was jamming it on the way to work. Tonight I read this thread.
I just downloaded from Napster. I wish they had the 45 version. Don't like the long LP version, and don't really like the club edit.
Anyhoo... very good song. I love how it is like a secret duet between Sheila and Prince. Their harmony sounded really good.
Their voices complement each other... unlike the heavy hitting voices of Rosie, Bonnie and others.... not saying the ladies couldn't sing... because we all know they could. I just think Sheila's voice blended better with Prince's
. Bonnie and the like had voices that go better with Eddie or Gerald Levert. Ya know what I mean? "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

I've always prefered the more complimenting vocals of Jill Jones, Sheila E. Lisa, Susannah Wendy Cat
than the belting vocals of Rosie and Shelby, Shelby to me is too overpowering I did like Bonnie, hers wasn't as distinct but, that's were it started.
songs like the Glamorous Life, I love to play along with Erotic City, Blue Limousine, 2 Sexy, Traffic Jam, Uptown, Wild n Loose they have a Minneapolis Night Life vibe that works

Do love the song "The Glamorous Life", but the radio kinda ruined it for me.
I NEVER get tired of "Shortberry Strawcake." She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

Not me, most of the time I listened to it was by choice via the album
And I LOVE Shortberry Strawcake

Yeah I love that album too but it's just another Prince album with someone else doing lead vocals...Sheila E is talented, but The Glamorous Life is 90% Prince

I've posted on this before, but it's probably my favorite song of all time (or one of).
Even th synths P used are different on here then they normal minny sound yet still part of his signature.
It's crazy to think what this would've sounded like before Sheila added her percussion parts....... it would be a ottally diff song! I always wondered who did the drum machine beat....it's very unique with the triplet and then doublet bass drum figures. Not sure if it's LM-1 or Linndrum (LM-2) he's using.
It's my ring tone on my phone. I made my own 15 sec version that just does the main hook from the intro, right after the bass or synth slides down and the horn comes in.
Speaking of which, I believe TGL is the 1st time Prince used sax. And it was Larry Williams who worked with Quincy and MJ on THriller, yet we never heard from him again on P records. Although Eric Leeds is the man!
Anyway, LOVE THIS SONG!!!
I even have a video of my old band trying to cover it on Youtube It doesn't sound that great but at least we tried!

Actually I loved Eddie M's sound equally and wherever Sheila was there was Eddie M.

That's probably true but she definately brought something to the table; a whole lot of talent and an incredible charisma. I don't think this song would have been such a classic one if it was handed to anyone else.
And the percussion is done like only Sheila could. I see that album as a class collaboration between Prince and Sheila.

Co-sign. Her personality and looks in the video plus the percussion she laid odwn made it way beyond a standard female-protege track.
I've said it before, I would love to hear the original demo and see how it compares to Sheila's version. I would guess it they are very different.
