The Family - High Fashion 12"

So Paul, Eric, and Bean were doing a live cam stream the other night. Before they got started, Paul pulls out this CD-R and says to the viewers, "Have you heard the 12'' of 'High Fashion'?" I wasn't sure if I had, although I initially said yes. (I think I own it, but I could be very wrong on that - I think I just own the promo 12" sent to radio stations, with the LP and Edit versions.) Anyway, he played the whole song, and OH MY GOD IT'S NASTY!

music

Some of the edits and breaks are off the hook! I recorded the audio feed, so I have a barely-okay copy of it (minus the first six seconds or so). Paul was just blasting it in the studio, and that's how I recorded the feed, right through my laptop with Cool Edit Pro. Even though it's not a "soundboard" recording, it's still awesome to have it. It clocks at about 6:30, roughly.

Just wondered if anyone else had heard this gem, or owns the promo copy. Paul and Eric seemed confused as to where folks got their copies or whatever. I don't know where Paul got that CD-R, but I'm assuming it's from a fan or someone who had the 12". He didn't seem like he owned it or had heard it since 1985.

During the playing of the song, there's a funky bass section at the end. Paul says, over the music, "this is where I learned all my bass playing. Seriously."

Wow! I would loved 2 hear this! From what I'm getting, that's the previously unreleased High Fashion 12' remix. That was planned 2 be released as part of the High Fashion single. It was later shelved and it went in the vault. I wished I would have gotten 2 hear that. SMH!

I guess it's not circulating. The promo 12" only had the LP cut and an edit. That's too bad there was a remix already in the can and it didn't make it to a commercial 12".

I'd like to hear this one as well.

Dred

That was a great stream. Loved the shout-outs to you and the call from Sheila.

You know I still get tickled every time I hear Paul or Eric call me out by name and say hi. I was really touched that Paul said, "My friend Ernest is here". I was like "now THAT is awesome". Eric saying "Oinest" was funny because I have a couple of cousins that had minor speech impediments as children. They couldn't pronounce an "R" correctly, so instead of "Ernest", it was "Ahww-nest". hahaha I know it's all silly, but I really do love those guys.

I think I have it. I'll look and see.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I would LOVE to hear this mix!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would definitely buy it as a song download if available. Here's the cover of the 12" promo I used to have of High Fashion. I don't think there was ever a commercially-released 12":

That's cool. If you did have it, everyone would be wondering why you were keeping it to yourself. razz

I remembered having a 12" from that era and it turned out to be for Screams of Passion. I also had a disk of various songs from then, but none of them were the long version of High Fashion. My bad.

Yeah, I have that Screams Of Passion 12" too. I think it was the only commercial 12" from the Family project.

You're right - it was the only one. I wore that 12" out because it had the breakdown with just the bass and drum machine in the middle. I used to play that part over & over again because it was so funky.
