@ The foil backdrop and the chairs. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

The dude dancing at the end looks like Timbaland.

He comes off as a total douchebag, hiding behind his glasses, talking with a soft voice, emoting. Gheez, I wonder who that reminds us of????
He just seems standoffish and pricky. The interviewer isn't that polished either, but still. Hopefully there are better interviews of Andre out there.

I have one of Donnie Simpson from Video Soul interviewing him when Dance Electric was out. I will dig out the VHS and upload it to you tube later tonight......

I did a radio interview with Andre Cymone back when he was touring in NYC for the "Survivin' In The 80s" record. Owen Husney called me at home and asked me if I was all set to do the interview. I said I can do it in 20 minutes and I drove to WNAB in Bridgeport, CT to record it in the studio.
Andre called the studio and was really nice. I was a nervous, excited 19 year old kid with my first job in commercial radio. Here was a musician who I was a big fan of called up. Two things stood out from the interview.
1) I asked him the bonehead question: Were keyboards your first instrument?
2) I don't think he referred to Prince by name. Kinda roundabout reference ala Morris in the early days discussing a friend helping him out.
There is a big reel to reel tape that exists of the interview. However, I loaned it to a deejay at the station and haven't seen it in 26 years.

Anyone know what he has been up to lately?
I mean, I have been out of the loop for a while, I know he was producing and was married to Jody Watley, but people know members of The Time, Vanity, Appolonia, etc. I don't think too many young people even heard of Andre.
Did a search but information on him is scarce. Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up

Cool story. It's too bad you don't have that tape to share. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I need that outfit! You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

That interviewer was the worst ever. Seems like he didn't even bother up to read a brief bio on the artist. No wonder why I've never seen him before or after that. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

oh man that is Nat Morris of "The Scene" here in Detroit. everyone watched "The Scene" back in the day...

I didn't hear his name but I heard him say that he was in Detroit so I assume that's him. Was that some sort of a local broadcast or something? Did he interview any other major artists? Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Well, I guess "interesting" is one way to describe it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Andre did look a little "bent" when he had to explain that he was the one who was supposed to work with The Time, and that Prince joined His group, and not the other way around. I know they had a big falling out at the time. But they are supposed to be good friends even till this day.
I saw Prince on Tavis Smily mention "My good friend Andre Cymone". Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

The Scene was THE show back in the day. If memory serves me right, Nat Morris interviewed a lot of artists that came to Detroit. He was kinda viewed as a pretty cool cat (believe it or not).

He said in the Donnie Simpson interview that he was only to be a member of Prince's group until Prince got established. That's not what he said here.

I think Andre was just trying to do the same stuff P did in his early interviews. Be mysterious and not say much. Owen Hunsey Andre's manager said that all of the minn crew wanted to have the same attitude as Prince and do some of the same things. Like screwing around in the interviews, telling the label to screw off and just trying to be a bad ass. According to Owen that was fine for Prince because he had the talent to back up his b.s. but it was bad for the other artist that he managed like Andre and Jesse Johnson. We are definitely seeing the attitude in this interview.

I think he's still working on stuff, I added him on facebook a while back and he intimated in his reply to my (respectful) question that he was cooking something up. (I'm assuming it was really him )

"cooking something up"? McNuggets? If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
