Vanity's "sensuous contributions" to El DeBarge's "Secrets of the Night" so the other day I was listening to various solo songs by DeBarge siblings on youtube when I came across "Secrets of the Night" by El DeBarge.
The guy who posted the video quoted the liner notes of El DeBarge's 1986 album. For the "thank you" part, it says "...and Vanity for her sensuous contributions on 'Secrets of the Night' ". Just to be sure I did a google search and found a blogspot that listed the individual credits of each song on the album, and El credited Vanity for "sensuous backgrounds" on the song It's funny-on almost all the other songs on the album, El had a host of singers giving background vocals, but for this song, he just enlisted Vanity You can hear her humming throughout the song, occasionally joining him in the chorus, and towards the end with the whispery "come to me..." part.
Anyway I just found this a bit interesting since Vanity has been linked with James DeBarge, yet here she is with a guest vocal appearance on an El DeBarge song

I Read The book Michael Jackson : the Magic and the Madness and there's a story about the motown smokey robinson tribute show in 1985, the one where vanity sings samuelle. well anyway it says that vanity kept on running in and out of james debarge's dressing room , when janet jackson saw what going down She tried to open up a can of whup ass on both them. My guess is that vanity and james were sharing some of that white powder back then. | |
