If you just want that one song, get the Girl 6 Soundtrack CD.

It's not remastered. It's a fake. None of that stuff has ever been remastered. It's a fan thing, not an official thing.
"Screams" is on the Girl 6 CD (again, not remastered).

Like Ernest said, what the OP describes is a counterfeit/bootleg. The Family CD was only issued in Japan (and Germany?). If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Yup...mine's from Germany. I have the Japanese CD. I've never actually seen a German pressing - that's why I questioned if my memory served me correctly. I would imagine both versions probably fetch the same big $$$. I bought mine as an import at a local record store when it came out. I paid $20 back then and I thought at the time that it was a lot to spend on a CD. I'm glad I spent "all that" cash. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

In the early 90s,I saw an import CD of 'The Family' at Tower Records. It was $25,if I'm not mistaken.I thought that was a crazy price,so I didn't buy it.I now wish that I had bought it These days,it's even more expensive,if you can even find a copy.

I have the OFFICIAL German version, which I bought in the early 90's for about 25 gulden (about 11 euro) in Holland, in an official store (free record shop). I never saw another copy anymore for sale.

I saw them at the New Power Generation store in Uptown Minneapolis but that's looong gone. I would not buy that "remaster" I downloaded that already..and though it sounds good dont pay that amount of money for it. They have it for $4 on vinyl still. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I have a version claiming to be the Japanese but I suspect it's a boot.
The CD itself and paper quality of the inlay seem perfect but the photos of the band in the inlay look a bit overexposed. Can anyone with the original confirm that the photos look normal in the proper pressing, or are there any other tell tale signs? It didn't come with an OBI either but an OBI strip would be easy to lose and whoever made it went to a lot of effort trying to get the rest of it identical so I doubt the OBI strip would have been beyond their capabilities. The other thing I guess would be that a 25 year old CD shouldn't be in such perfect condition.....

What condition would it be in? no idea. I don't have any 25 year old cd's. Guess that's not the important part of my query

The booklet should also contain a plain white slipsheet with B&W photos and Japanese liner notes. Prince took the color booklet photos, so maybe they look a little over exposed, but not bad really. The jewel case does not have the usual "W" Warner Bros emboss on the back bottom right that you would find on typical US pressed cases. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It has the "W" emboss on the cover and doesn't have the deboss on the disc itself. Damn good boot though, they went to the effort of having 'the family' de-bossed (that's the term? fair enough) on the inside circle of the CD and used very good quality paper to replicate the artwork. In regards, overexposed photos, sorry that was the wrong term, I meant oversaturated. Too much red. You can only really notice it on the colour photos though, the black & white ones are almost perfect as are the lyric sheets.

Good lord the prices are even worse on ebay. Especially that Japanese version. Absolute insanity.

Jeez, if they went through the trouble of de-bossing the inside ring, they could have used the right code. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Copied it to my computer, "remastered" it, burned it...and have never opened the official case since. But play the hell out of the copy! ^ It's a must-have album from Prince's most interesting creative period, so it's a bargain at twice that price as far as I'm concerned. The introduction of Clare Fischer, the funky high-life attitude and the well written lyrics make it a favorite of mine. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Absolutely fantastic.
I do sometimes wish Prince did the singing instead of St Paul. I often imagine "Camille" on lead vocals on every track except for "Nothing Compares 2 U". Would have been killer! "The Screams of Passion" sang by Camille and Susannah? YIKES She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

Impossible for you to do. Come on, ernest. I've read your posts about removing Tony M from D&P and the Symbol album (and I applaud you for that as well), so I know you know there are programs out there that allow you to upgrade your music. I use Cakewalk which allows me to adjust the loudness, add/take away bass/treble, etc. It may not be an official "remaster", but my version sounds way more modern than the original. She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

For the record: I never said I "remastered" them. I never changed the EQ or anything else. I took Tony M. out. I always called it an "edit", not a "Remastered" series or anything. I liked the way those albums sounded in general, so there was no need to change it anyway. AFA The Family - I like the analog feel of it. It's warm, and comfy.

It's quite easy to change all the levels, and even remove tracks altogether, with some fairly current software. You may be opposed to calling it a remaster, which I understand. But when you can remove hiss, boost overall volume and equalize more frequencies than are healthy for a human being to have access to, all without changing the original format of the song, it does become something more than a remix.

I went from famming out on the CASSETTE for years and years and years, to buying the Japanese CD on eBay.
Honestly, every listen is just heavenly. When you go from listening to a cassette you love to a CD, you don't really care if it is remastered or not

As always, I have to repost my collection that spawned from adoring that one cassette on the bottom right.

While we are all reminiscing about this fantastic album, doe anyone remember Friday Night Videos on NBC?
Does anyone remember a Prince night they did in 85? Forgive me for I was only 11 years old, but I seem to remember interviews with Sheila E and a BIG black guy that was a bodyguard, also an interview with St Paul and Susannah right before they aired the Screams of Passion video. I cant for the life of me remember anything that was said other than Sheila saying something funny about the bodyguard, but I refuse to believe I imagined this. Please tell me somebody else remembers this. squirrelgrease?? ernest? oldfriends4sale? She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

Big Chick, Prince's bodyguard at the time, wasn't black. There were other bodyguards though, like Hucky.
