Best Associated Artist NOT Produced by Prince I was listening to Monte Moir's debut solo album recently, This Side of Paradise, and realized that even after 8 years, that album is so beautiful, well crafted and well written. Monte has a higher tenor voice, similar to James Taylor. (A duet with the two of them would be like dipping your hand into a vat of icing and just gorging yourself on it.)
So what former Prince associate's album do you like - but it has to be an album NOT produced by Prince (ergo: "Former"). Is it Vanity's post-Prince records? Taja Sevelle's 2nd album? Sheila E's Sex Cymbal, Writes of Passage, or Heaven albums? St. Paul's first solo album or subsequent albums? etc etc. Monte is at the top of my list. I like Brownmark's first two CDs as well. Still love Wendy & Lisa's first album; Eroica stands out too. | |

Still love Wendy & Lisa's first album; Eroica stands out too. i took your advice and im listening to monte for the first time and hes pretty good but his voice reminds me of Christian music but im gonna have to go with jesse johnsons albums /terry and jimmys produced albums/ vanity's - skin on skin on this one i like shelia E too but not as much as her prince stuff | |

All of the Wendy & Lisa releases were top notch in my book.
Also Taja Sevelle's 'Toys Of Vanity' was fantastic. When  go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all  up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming! | |

I'm gonna go with Wendy & Lisa/Girl Bros., though Jesse's albums are great and Bare My Naked Soul is incredible. Candy Dulfer and Eric Leeds have excellent catalogs as well. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. | |

I think Tony LeMans made a good album for Paisley Park.
Mazarati's first album falls into this category if you believe that all Prince did was write 100 MPH and BRownMark produced it. Bare My Naked Soul is a classic and puts tripe like Verbal Penetration to shame. Taja Sevelle is another good one. All of Eric Leeds' albums are great and probably the best overall | |

Girlbros. is amongst my favorite albums of all time, the way the girls deal with all the emotions they touch on it is so incredibly delicate yet balanced. it shows how sadness and hurt can be beautiful and inspiring feelings in retrospect. | |

I always thought I'd like Shockadelica because of the story behind it, and I really dug "Crazay", but I find myself gravitating all the time to Every Shade of Love. That's a very diverse album, very fun, well-rounded.
Wendy and Lisa's first album is just stellar, even to this day. I'm also going to preemptively add Fdeluxe (formerly The Family). From the stuff I've heard so far, they are going to have an album that will rival their first. You can quote me on that. It's too bad Matt Fink or Bobby Z (although BZ might not have ever really been a singer) couldn't pull off the same type of interesting album. | |

Come to think of it, Matt's work stands out from all the others in it's boring-ness. Remarkable, given the sounds he produced when working with Prince. All in all it's overall remarkable how almost all of the non-Prince produced work of the associated artists is interesting, and almost non of the Prince material is. I like Ta`Mara & The Seen's debut album, pretty cool. This could be played back 2 back with the Jesse Johnson's Revue album. I wonder if Jesse has the demo version of that Ta`Mara & The Seen album with his vocals as lead? That would be cool 2 hear, that maybe the real follow up 2 the Jesse's debut album. That would be a great part 2 of sort of that album. | |

Great post! First of all, I didn't even know that Monte Moir released a solo record so thanks for that info.
My favorite is Sheila E.'s Latina Familia. On the video where she does her conga solo is spine-tingling.
After that any of Wendy & Lisa solo records, but my favorites are the first, Wendy & Lisa, and Eroica.
