The Time Las Vegas NV May 30, 2010 review

I went and saw the Time at the Hilton Theater in Las Vegas, NV. This was my third show of the year, my 10th with the original line up and my 55th overall.

Well the day started just like the previous two did. Me feeling like ass. I went downstairs and tried to eat, but it wasn't happening. I went back to my room and suffered until it was time for the soundcheck. This one was different than the one from the day before. The band was mostly working out the kinks from the night before. Not that I noticed anything, but these guys are pros and wanted the show perfected. They probably did this for about an hour or so, playing about half the show and certain numbers multiple times They jammed on Skillet atleast three times which was a treat for me. Jesse also did some more solo numbers that didn't make it into the show.Sweet!!!

I went back to the room and chilled out. Got ready for the show. This night was casual with me wearing my "Rhastus" Atlanta Braves jersey. I met up with the fellas and did that backwoods trip to the backstage area. Hung out and waited on Showtime. I was in the same spot as the night before. In the VIP section on the left hand side of the stage. Well on to the show.

Here is the Line-up
Morris Day- Vocals and Cool
Jerome Benton-Valet, Dancer, background vocals and general mischief maker
Jimmy Jam-Keyboards and MC
Monte Moir-Keyboards and background vocals
Terry Lewis- Bass and background vocals
Jellybean Johnson- Drums
Jesse Johnson-Guitar and lead vocals

Here is the setlist with my comments to follow
1. Intro
2. Get it up
3. Cool
4. Wild and Loose
5. 777-9311
6. The Stick
7. Blondie
8. My Drawers
9. Fishnet
10. The Oak Tree
11. Jerk Out
12. The Skillet
13. Bleeding Heart
14. Be your man
15. Can you help me
16. Free world
17. If the kid can't make you come
18. Ice Cream castles
19. Gigolos get lonely too
20. The Walk
21. The Bird
22. Jungle Love

The show was around 90 minutes long with the same setlist as the day before. They did cut it short on Cool, leaving out the extended half beat portion. Not a full house, but I would say it was 3/4ths full. This crowd was more laid back than Saturday's crowd. More people just sitting checking out the show instead of dancing. Which is a shame because I think this show was even better than Saturday's. They needed that crowd for this show. Jerome and Morris displayed the onstage chemistry that has been entertaining crowds for almost 30 years. Somewhere during the first half of the show, I moved up to the front row on the side and had a great view the rest of the night. Highlights for me of course were the rock section of Blondie and My Drawers. Jesse was even better tonight. Skillet was just insane and the blues and trio of solo hits drove the crowd crazy. Tonight he didn't hide during Kid. Jerome got off on a tangent after Ice Cream castles, but Jellybean wrangled him back in as he put down the beat for Gigolos. The Walk and the Bird followed with Jungle Love closing the show

I went back stage and hung out again. Somebody mentioned me reviewing the show and Morris started on a play by play that sounded like I wrote it. That shit cracked me up and I should have let him do it this time. We decided that we were going to see Purple Reign again. I piled in the car with Jellybean, Marty, Monte and Elise to go see them again. They tripped out that we showed up again and with Monte in tow this time. Hung out in the bar with those guys after their show and eventually made it back to the casino. Good times and hopefully more to come in the future.

Great review as always! Do you know if they're planning a proper European tour around the new album...most importantly, if they'll be playing London?

I've heard some rumors, but nothing concrete. I think we have to wait and see if they can keep everybody together when the album comes out to actually do a real tour

Great review as always, Rhastus.

I find it somehow ironically hilarious that they went to see Purple Reign.
