If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

New album ‘Straight To The Funk – The Best Of St. Paul’ out May 22 in Australia, and mid June in the rest of the world.

To coincide with his appearance on The Propostrophy Tour later this month, acclaimed performer St. Paul (aka Paul Peterson) will release a retrospective album titled ‘Straight To The Funk – The Best Of St Paul’, on his own Celebration Label with distribution through One Stop.

The Propostrophy Tour will see St. Paul join Latin drum legend Sheila E along with jazz/funk virtuoso Ricky Peterson and The Peterson Brothers for a series of shows that will kick-off in Melbourne in 19 May and continue around the country, hitting most capital cities.

One of the mainstays of the classic Minneapolis Sound, St. Paul has long been admired for his soulful vocals and musicianship (he is proficient on bass, keyboards, guitar & drums), with the likes of Questlove (The Roots), bass virtuoso Victor Wooten and Sheila E. unabashed admirers.

'Straight To The Funk – The Best of St. Paul’ showcases a selection of tracks from 3 solo albums and songs made popular by his group The Family, along with 2 new solo tracks. The record features contributions from Prince, Monte Moir (The Time, Janet Jackson), Sturken & Rogers (Rihanna, Michael Jackson), Oliver Leiber (Chaka Khan, Paula Abdul), O’Dell (Mint Condition), Chance Howard (Candy Dulfer, Nikka Costa), members of the Peterson Family and many more.

He mentioned this recently on his Facebook before he took off for the tour. He asked fans what they'd like to see on it. I'm curious as to the track listing.

Sounds good. I love the rough mix of "@8". I watched and listened as Jellybean laid down his drum parts, and Paul resing a lot of his parts. I can't wait to hear the finished project. I wondered how he was going to get The Family stuff on there, but I also had a hunch that it might be The Truth doing it. It's a good way to get it out there.

I wish that he included the Rich Man (Club Mix), but oh well. Still looks like a decent collection.

I don't believe I have that in my collection. I'm sorely lacking on St. Paul material, aside from his first album. I have an affinity for that album. It's a good set of songs, and really shows he's a master musician that could hold his own with the best. But it also reminds me of those escape moments in the Navy, when I needed something colorful and funky to get away from the sea of blue uniforms stained with grease and dirt day in and day out. His album was one of those for me.

His S/T album is great. It's really hard to find on CD. I think you're gonna dig Volume 12 of a certain Fun series of OOP stuff. Club Mix will be on it.
