Why is Paul Petersen ST Paul? I was just wondering why Paul Petersen of The Family and formerley The Time calls himself Saint Paul? Isn't it egotistical to name yourself this way? A SAINT he AIN'T! | |

cuz his name is paul and the second of the twin cities is called st paul so thats what prince called him | |

It sounds more like you're just wanting to spit a bit of venom on someone you don't know. Paul is a humble and grateful guy. I know that from talking to him.
As noted above, it's not hard to see the play on names with St. Paul and Minneapolis Minnesota. | |

I think Paul is the ONLY ONE who actually calls him(self) "St. Paul". 
I guess it is a way for him to keep is "pop music" persona separate from his "jazz persona".  | |

First of all, i'd wager a chunk that it was Prince that came up with "St. Paul".
Secondly, i think the Paul like a lot of Prince ex-cohorts keeps referring to himself as such so the Prince heads know/remember who he is. Same reason Carmen Electra keeps calling herself that. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

no one ain't a saint.. and he ain't a punk either, but prince called him a punk ;p prince ain't a prince, either.. lol anyway.. I really like the name prince gave him.. + got nothin' negative to tell bout st paul.. i really liked him from the first time i saw him on purple rain.. the time i saw him when i had the ice cream castle LP in my hands.. and the time i saw him when i had the family LP in my hands.. but when i heard 'nothing compares 2 u' i started loving this guy! i never liked o'connor's version, nor prince's that much.. st paul's vocals is what make that song for me.. As you notice I said "are you just funnin'?" - since I wasn't sure, i don't really know peoples level of Prince trivia by name on the board.
I've had plenty of people who insist his name is Roger Nelson - and they are fans (not on these boards). SO I was just askin' and not going on about it. jeez  |
