I used to watch Friday Night Videos every week. I don't remember any Prince related interviews, but that doesn't mean much... grandpa

I have the OFFICIAL German version, which I bought in the early 90's for about 25 gulden (about 11 euro) in Holland, in an official store (free record shop). I never saw another copy anymore for sale.

I have this German pressing as well. IT is the real deal and the only one that any real collector should pay for.

The Japanese pressing is worth more.

They did do an all Prince episode right around the time of Batman or Graffiti Bridge, it was pretty awesome, they played some live stuff from Japan (Question Of U being one of them, I forget the others)

Ya know, this album - and a lot of the other "protege" albums Prince released through WB - are a perfect example of why the record industry is broken. Why would WB NOT remaster and release limited quantities of these albums? Especially in a time when overall record sales are dying by the month. Limited releases of things people actually WANT are the future of their business. So, is it Prince? I mean, I think we know he doesn't want them messing with the material he released under his own name and symbol. But are they also at odds regarding everything else? If so, too bad for us, again. lol

That's what I dont get. If WB owns the stuff, why does Prince have a say so in what they do?

They can only re-issue, as is. Any altering of the content (ie, remastering) must be with Prince's approval. There was an individual who worked with the company that released The Ultimate Prince Collection (I think that was the name), well, the tunes on that CD were remastered and Prince made it very difficult to happen and almost pulled the whole thing. If my memory serves correctly.

Thanks...I always wondered about that and it explains a lot.

I'm positive WB would have done a full blown Purple Rain remaster in 2004 had he allowed it. With the popularity he rode in 04, we can assume it would have done well, possibly leading to more.

This is terrible news.

And WB did re-release a handful of Paisley Park CDs a couple of years ago on the Encore label. Pandemonium, The Glamorous Life, Romance 1600 and I think Sheila's 3rd, self-titled CD. All of The Time CDs are kept in print on WB.

I guess the bean counters don't think The Family and Apollonia 6 would sell enough to justify reprints. Either that, or their original Japan/Germany-only release may be a sign that there was something fishy in the distribution contract.

Yup...mine's from Germany.
I have the Japanese CD. I've never actually seen a German pressing - that's why I questioned if my memory served me correctly. smile I would imagine both versions probably fetch the same big $$$. I bought mine as an import at a local record store when it came out. I paid $20 back then and I thought at the time that it was a lot to spend on a CD. lol I'm glad I spent "all that" cash.
I wish! Got mine on ebay in 2002 for $85. Copied it to my computer, "remastered" it, burned it...and have never opened the official case since. But play the hell out of the copy!

Yep, I just purchased mine from Ebay about three months ago for $49 (Japanese CD).cool

It wasn't from this guy was it? 'Cause these are obviously fakes:

I also apperciate that post, SOS. I just started a thread asking why Apollonia's solo album (with no Prince involvment) was reissued on digital format. I guess it makes sense, but still sucks out loud. Yeah, I think it's very true that Prince was heavily involved with "Ulimate Prince", which is why no "Sexy MF'er" or "Erotic City", which appeared on the original tracklisting.

Also, I saw the fan made "The Family" release....with music videos at a record store that I thought new better. It was listed under Prince's name in the CD rack, along with some lesser interesting fakes by proteges and some P boots (one which I might go back and buy....it's the "LoveSexy" show and I really hope the sound quality is good).

dag, i gotta be prepared to shell out some loot huh! WB and P should know there's a demand for this album. so apart from the correct serial number, is there any other way to tell if its a boot? (i saw the stuff about the embossed W logo, but if that's fake, or where it isn't supposed to be, wouldn't the serial number be wrong?)
