THAT'S SOME CRAP! Seriously no offense but do you realize that when Prince first came out it was the 70s and virtually everybody in the music biz was dressing that way? You either had on wild colors and shiny clothes or you had bell bottoms and feather boas. Just look up any rock star from the mid to late 70s and early 80s....they were all "cute and everything". The only thing that's in our faces as BAM is the controversy...that's what sells! Prince has reached his peak as far as fame and money goes so he no longer has to dress "cute" and sing about "sex". bored It's sad that people still speculate and assume that a singer/musician is performing their autobiography. Often what an artists sings or raps about is not necessarily what's going on in their lives but what's going on the lives of their fans. He's talking about YOU! lol

Nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody wore high heals, and dressed like Prince in the 70's 80's or 90's. Liberace (spelling) and Elton John may fit in that catagory, but no indivdual who is African American and lives in the United States of America has ever dressed like Prince. End of topic. This thread is an insult to a married man with children that you don't even know.

Why is asking someone if they are gay an insult? The kid from Big Bang Theory was on The View the other day and was asked about the constant rumors of his sexuality and he responded that he is hesitant to respond to them because he doesn't feel there is anything wrong with the question since there is nothing wrong with being gay. His response (here a guy in his early thirties) was light years ahead of the idiotic and hate-tinged response seen by Jerome here on the org. I swore then to boycott this mans work and sadly, that might lead to me *not* supporting The Family Deluxe CD on principle, the man showed how ignorant he was that day...and sadly, I don't know if I can forgive him as an artist for that.

Jerome ain't on Fdeluxe .... And what "work" would you boycott - his dancing??? lol I get your point but he really doesn't DO anything.

As far as Reel goes he clearly has no idea WTF he is talking about with R&B acts in the 70s and 80s. I attended many concerts - LTD, Pfunk, Commodores, EWF and a host of others - those were some glam ass costumes with some stack and high heels. "Word Up" video with Larry Blackmans oversized crotch piece? Obviously he has never heard of Little Richard either. Limited knowledge is not an excuse for the ignorance either cause he keeps making CLAIMS that are not based in fact and then he goes on to keep making stuff up about music acts of the period. Mods... REALLY.... close it down. I am shocked this thread keeps on going....

I'm a huge Melvoin/Coleman family fan and I've traveled all over to support their efforts. However, if he is part of the live act, after seeing his homophobic insensitivity at play, well, I would have to not only boycott the show but ask my fellow LGBT members to do the same.

I'm sorry I started this nonsense.

Finally get folks to answer one of my posts and this is what happens.

Just to clear the air: I DIDNT THINK JEROME WAS GAY. My wife did and she brought up some stuff that made me say "Hmmm."

Knowing there are people here lucky enough to know some of these folks personally, I wanted to see if anyone knew for certain. Got a couple of "I know Jerome" answers and am happy with that.

I love this site...some knowledgeable people...and the photos!!! biggrin

But the anger and rudeness here is astounding.

Maybe that's why Prince told us we cant have no mo' candy!!

The bottom line is that sexuality is a complex issue. It is not black or white sexuality is a spectrum of activities ranging from pure fantasy to actual copulation, to emotionally being attracted to one sex, and only sexually being attracted to another etc. I think folks fail to realize how quickly and discretly a sexual encounter can be exercised. Folks seem to think that if you sleep with a memeber of the same sex that somehow a scarlet letter will appear on your clothing that is unwashable, or that the person that you slept with will automatically run to the tabloids and tell. People who choose their longterm sex partners (whatever the sexuality) generally have and idea of what type of person they are. With that being said, if you want to have a discrete sexual encounter with someone of the same sex and not worry about it really getting out, sleep with your Pastor, or Sleep with the President, or Sleep with someone who would be even more humiliated than yourself if it was learned about the encounter. Sex does not have to be "knock down drag out and lasting 'till dawn'. It actually can occur in a couple of seconds, or minutes.
Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

I'm merely stating an opinion. On this thread some folks appear to think that if you have sex with a same sex person, that it has to be a big production, and some big vast label has to always go with it, I'm just saying that it could be a very discrete encounter, and folks can resume their lives as usual.

I don't think anyone on this topic is out of school to think that sex with the same sex means you are engaging in homosexual activity? Seems pretty factual to me. Nothing odd for the average person to think this.

BlaqueKnight, no I think that there are some solid "straight" people out there, who have never thought of a person of the same sex in any way other than a brotherly or sisterly way. And then I know of others where the line becomes a bit blurred, all the way until you get to the indivdual who self-identifies as being gay. I say this because in the years that I've spent on this earth I've seen some crap to make you really question "why"? I've seen families that have been together for 20 -30 years and then it's later learned that one partner was "getting a lil on the side" by a member of the same sex. Take jail for instance, many willingly participate in sex with members of the same sex, and upon their release they do not identify as being gay or anything other than straight.

PREACH THAT SHIT!!! clapping

That 80s rock band Poison was 10x more flashy and draggy than Prince. What about Annie Lennox dressing like a dude when she was a member of the Eurythmics? I watched an episode of Unsung featuring the Bar-Kays and they were surely draggalicous. The 70s/80s were a time of experimental fashion and the wilder your outfit the more attention you probably got. Prince wasn't the first to use clothes to boost his image and spark curiosity to help sell records and he won't be the last.

Let's not confuse funky platforms with "high heels", and no one said that the costumes were not outrageous in the 1970's. I just said that nobody dressed like Prince.

You not only said that nobody dressed like Prince (dead wrong if you ever bother to look up Little Richard and Sly Stone and Rick James) but you also tried to use his fashion as some justification that he's gay. This thread was about Jerome and you took it to a place Prince fans and music fans have been too time and time again. It gets old and it sounds stupid.

I know what i typed, and I feel the same way.
Rick James got his look from another 70's group, the Barcays. I know what I typed and why I typed it. Just continue to believe what you wish. And I don't have to "try" to use anything to justify questions Prince's sexuality. He pretty much did that himself through his music and "Camille" and other stuff. If what someone says upsets you. I of course laughed at her ridiculousness as she went on to point out other instances of Jerome being gay. Some of y'all seem to know some of these folks personally, hence the question.
