Larry Graham & GCS, Koko, London

One of the best concerts I have ever seen.

I thought it would be good, but this good? Larry was on fire and had more energy than most thirty year olds, playing about 2 hours 10 minutes straight (I had to leave around 10:30, but think I was missing an encore). No breaks, all high octane, raw funk.

When he have came into the audience stood on a crate and thumped the hell out of his bass about two feet from me I was pretty much in heaven. A fierce renditon of 'Earthquake/Imagettin' which included Larry playing the bass on a mic stand and with his teeth, then leaping from left to right on stage as though his body could not contain itself.

Great venue, great, enthusiastic, good-natured crowd, great band, great energy consistent throughout the set. Songs included:

People
Hair
Feel the Need
I can't Stand the Rain
It's Alright
The Jam
Earthquake/Imagettin
Family Affair
Everyday People
Dance to the Music
Hot fun in the Summertime
Thankyouforletinbemicelfagin
The Jam

An amazing experience, in a pretty much packed Koko.

I couldn't agree more. It was a fantastic night and his playing was phenomenal. I particularly liked the audience participation and when he invited up guitarists and singers from the audience. There were so many memorable moments.

ALSO: smooth entry, posters with a definite time for Larry to start his set (which he did with a couple of minutes in), merchandise at reasonable prices, T-shirts you can actually WEAR, live CD and live DVD at just £15 per piece.
Funk is its own reward.

Ditto, couldn't have put it any better.

I expected to enjoy Larry & GCS, but they were phenomenal.

And there is something so decent and open about them too.

Fantastic night.

I can add We've Been Waiting and If You Want Me To Stay to the song list.

I totally agree.

There was something very sincere about them you don't normally feel with most bands. Larry in particular, appeared very warm, funny and welcoming. Despite comments here, I didn't find him at all 'preachy' or 'heavy-handed'. Even when he briefly mentioned the injustice in world conditions during the Sam Cooke song (forgive me, I forget the title) it seemed authentic and more of a plea than a dogma filled rant.

Larry is so under-rated by many here it is criminal. But the majority of people at Koko seemed to be smiling. It was particularly good on the lower level in front of the stage. I didn't like the look of most of the balconies, though they appeared very full.

It was possibly the most 'feel-good' concert I have ever been to. We left on a real high.

Prince is far more preachy than Larry at live gigs.

Larry came across as a cool, humble guy. Great gig.

Totally agree. There are some real misrepresentations of Larry here. And yes, he did seem like a genuinely humble guy.

It was an amazing, fun night,Where does he get all that energy from?!

From the band entrance through the crowd(with funky percussuion),the jamming with muscians from the audience, through to larrys' solo in the middle of a packed dancefloor..let's just say,I didn't stop dancing!
I also managed to meet and get some photos with him at the signing and I must say he was very gracious and friendly.

It's now up there as one of my favourite shows.

It's one of my favourite shows as well. And I never thought I'd say that.

I am broken hearted I didn't go!! I have loved Larry Graham since the 70s when I wrote to them asking when they would play in the UK, I used to get hand written letters back from dell Graham which I still have. i even went to Minneapolis in 2004 hoping to see him then, why didn't I go? Long way from London on a Sunday night I guess.

Hopefully he'll be back and I can get up on stage and sing Hap E 2 C U Agin!!

Sounds like a great night.

After the response he got at Koko and the feedback afterwards I would be pretty sure he will return. Have you checked www.larrygraham.com
