Sheila E. - Sheila E.

I think this is great album, despite only being half Prince.

One Day (I'm Gonna Make You Mine) - I always think this songs doesn't fit in on the Sheila E. album.

I like the song, but it's very The Time or The Family (High Fashion).

Hold Me & Faded Photographs are produced much more like the rest of America sounded at that time - outside of Mpls wink

Wednesday Like A River - If only there was a video for this, I'm imagining really blue skies, sinshine and a trippy theme. It has hit stamped all over it.

Pride & The Passion could have gone on Romance 1600, it had that feel to it.

Boys Club - sounds like Scarlet Pussy crossed with Shockadelica - love it!

Soul Salsa - Nice latin number, funky. And showed she was more than another Prince girl.

Hon E Man - Doesn't grab you immediately, I used to skip it, but it's really grown on me after all these years, kinda like Rock Hard In A Funky Place.

Love On A Blue Train - Very pop, but so much fun when it goes into the vamp at the end.

Koo Koo, urgh I always hated this song, I didn't get what it was trying to be at all. But I downloaded the video, and got into it.

It's kinda like a nursery rhyme pop version of Sign O' The Times, the the simplicity and almost rapping give it a dated feel, but I've grown to like it - the video is so 1987 smile

It's a shame they never finished the 4th album, it would have been fun.

- Girl Power
- Scarlet Pussy
- 3 Nigs watchin' a kung-fu movie
- Latino Barbie Doll

What else I wonder? smile

"What else I wonder? " I've read on the Uptown site, I think, about a great song called "Love & Sex"

i think Her Best one in Association with Prince but in hindsight only two songs stand out for me now:"Wednesday Like a River"&"Hold Me".IMHO Overall I dig Her Playing as too anything Else She does especially when Compared too Her Singing which on this Album ain't that Bad.

I loved this album...and the cover!

"Hold Me" is a great ballad..."Wednesday" is a great track that should have been a single!

"Faded Photographs" I've always thought of as Sheila's "Love is a Battlefield"
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

Prince was definitely involved with these songs...

"One Day (I'm Gonna Make You Mine)"
"Wednesday Like A River"
"Koo Koo"
"Pride And The Passion"
"Boy's Club"
"Love On A Blue Train" and possibly "Hon E Man" too.

So,you are correct,Prince did ALOT of work on that album.

I think this album is the best Sheila E. album ever. It's a strong collection of songs, and it should have gotten more support and promotion from Paisley Park/Warners.In fact, these four songs should have been the singles...

***"Hold Me"---this was a perfect choice for the first single and it did extremely well on the R&B charts. On this tune,Sheila displays some impressive vocal skills that were previously heard on "Bedtime Story" from 'Romance 1600'.But I wonder, where was the video??

***"Faded Photographs"---the best song on the album!! A hard rocking,Latin-flavored pop track that sizzles. The chorus is strong and addictive, and the song benefits greatly from the forceful background vocals by a woman in Sheila's band (can't remember her name).

***"Pride And The Passion"---Lyrically,this song is a "sequel" of sorts to "The Glamorous Life".Once again,Sheila is singing about a woman who is unsure if she should explore true love. It's a kickass number.

***"Love On A Blue Train'---this is the funkiest thing on the album, and it rocks!! It features the steamiest lyrics on the album ("let me take your ticket...I'll show you where to stick it"),and would have been a MAJOR R&B smash if it had been released as a single.

"Koo Koo" Got Camille Written all over it for some strange reason."Pride&The Passion" that Programming Groove reminded me of "Anotherloverholenyohead"&You hear Him near the end."Boy's Club" you can hear His Vibe&It feels like "Oliver's House" Re-thread in there."Love on a Blue Train" is too Close to it's gonna be a Beautiufl Night" with that Heavy Horn Vibe&tone.you know it's Prince."Wednesday Like a River" wouldn't sound out of palce on a Revolutio Album with Wendy&Lisa doing string arrangements.

An awesome album, no doubt about it.

Here's a tidbit 4 U;
The single for Koo Koo had a picture of Sheila on the sleeve (a hazy close-up, with her wearing dark shades)...and on the back it stated..."Photography By Prince"...cool eh?
By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
