Martika's Kitchen (album) I've always enjoyed this album.
Love...Thy Will be Done- Still lovely Spirit- Something about this song always made me think of Prince trynna do "Vogue", but of course I still like it. Martika's Kitchen- a lil' gimmicky (not a huge fan of folks names in songs), but still...supercute. Don't Say You Love Me-I've always really liked this song. (Prince's and Martika's) It seemed somewhat wasted IMO (not released as a single by Martika). If not for Martika, could it have worked as a hit for Prince?

I don't think "Don't Say You Love Me" would have worked for Prince. It's cute enough but sounded like it was definitely written with someone else in mind for the vocals. His version comes across as more instructional than improvised. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Glad this album gets some love. I could never hear the title track without hearing "work that fat" in my head now LOL.
"Love thy will be done" is a great track though. I often thought it had a Wendy and Lisa vibe but Iam probably way off though LOL. Though its been years since I played it, "a Magical place", a duet with Christopher Max (who also produced it), was my fav track and probably would be today. Also dug "take me to forever", a song about suicide apparantly. Again, Prince had nothing to do with that cut either I guess the work Prince did here is comparable to Eliza Fiorillo. I give the edge to her though. Better voice, and "on the way up" and "love's no fun" were cool tracks. She sounded hot on "love machine" as well LOL. Thanks for reminding me to dig the album out though. No sure about the album cover though? Abit arty considering how poppy the album itself was?

I agree on his sounding instructional, but that's just because it was IMO. Didn't he record that version with her voice in mind? I think he could've performed a polished (probably with some changes here and there) release-worthy version (even if not a single) if he wanted and the song could have worked with him on vocals.

I liked Eminem's song Toy Soldiers where he sampled Martika's hit. I read in a magazine years ago that Prince was Martika's first lover. She said something like' I waited 21 years but it was worth the wait!'. Can u believe it's almost 20 years since Love thy will be done, and I agree it does have a Wendy & Lisa vibe to it.

"Loves no fun" is a great pop track. Decent vocal as well. "On the way up" is pretty decent if you like late 80's pop like I do LOL. "Don't change", one of the non Prince songs, is one of my favs also, along with "ain't right". Been ages since I've played that album as well LOL. [Edited 5/5/10 19:23pm]

always thought it was weird that she passed on "Open Book" but just HAD to have "Don't Say U Love Me" (which was going to be given to Paula Abdul). don't really care for the song and she passed on an A+ song. Paula benifited, though. "U" is way better.

I agree on all counts. I do like "don't say you love me" though, but I prefer "u", even with its "gonna make you sweat" guitar sample LOL

I truly loved "Love..Thy will be done" and did not know it was a prince song. I wasn't a Prince fan until 2008 It was just 2 days ago that I downloaded "Love...Thy will be done' onto my phone.
