Denise Mathews Website

I'm probably "jonny come lately" with this post so sorry if it's already been mentioned...
Denises website says her book is finished, has anyone read it yet?
Also am i the only one to think that asking for money donations is in bad taste ? She says she's not rich but then asks for money donations to the Ministry, is this for a church or for her personal use?

Sorry i'm a long time lurker here but this has got me a bit bemused

Not only that but it also says on her website that delivery for the book is not guaranteed. Sounds very sketchy to me. Is she back on drugs?

This is from her website:

"PLEASE NOTE: We expect the book to come out in March or April. The book is in Hong Kong and is in line for printing. People you can make installment payments. Blame It On Vanity was quite expensive to make, being that is a coffee table book and every page is in color. I make approximately $10 a book after tithes, offering, taxes, shipping and all of those who helped along the journey. In pre-orders free shipping does apply for those living outside the US. Those of you who paid $45 in pre-orders, I will pay $12 for shipping and handling as promised. For those of you who purchase the book after it is released, you will be required to pay $45 dollars, plus $12 Priority shipping tracking and taxes. Remember you may pay in installments payment."

Notice how it says March or April, but doesn't say what year. confused And at this point I'm not really trying to make a joke. Given past excuses, it wouldn't surprise me if Denise didn't mention the year because even she doesn't know when the hell it will be released.

I feel bad for those who pre-paid and haven't recieved it yet. Denise should have at least had the common courtesy to email the people who already ordered and tell them updates on the book...

to those of you who pre-ordered the book...

If you don't have it by the end of April, you should demand that your money be returned.Don't accept any more excuses ("it's coming soon",blah blah blah).

I agree nod A large, expensive coffee-table book with every page in color? She seems to think that she is more important than she really is.The truth is,this book is only gonna appeal to a small number of people who remember her from the Vanity 6 days.

I ordered this book over a year ago (possibly two years). The first time I pre-order anything and it's a disaster...never again. It is not cool to accept money for a book and not even follow up with a new release date...something.

I just checked her blameitonvanity.com site and apparently the book is ready. She took down the pre-order stuff she had on there.

Can those of you who pre-ordered let us know when you get the book? thanks smile

I have made payment on the book over a year ago (Dec 2008). Last month (March 2010) I e-mailed Denise asking where the book was and if it was a fraud..to which I received the reply :

"My name is Christine Harris and I am Denise Matthews' personal assistant. This is not a BOOK FRAUD.. Denise Matthews was very ill for 4 months and nearly lost her life.. Being that she is self publishing eveything was put on hold, because she much okay everything in this book process before if can proceed. Her book is now in the final process and will be shipped from Hong Kong soon. Please confirm your the address used and I will refund your $45 dollars."

My response: I am very sympathetic towards Denise that she has been ill.
I pray for her & wish her well! As for the book, I hope you can understand my frustration. I pre-ordered back in 2008, and apart from the update e-mail in August 2009, I have not heard anything at all. I apologize for being abrupt in my previous e-mail & still look forward to receiving the book when it is released. All I ask is to please keep me informed on the release progress.

The reply: Thank you so much for being so understanding.. I will update you when the books arrive here in the states..

She may have been ill recently, but she was asking for preorders way back in 2006, I think. Then it was some exorbitant amount like $200 or something. I'm sure some people remember when she was calling people to get them to buy it. She called me. Talked for like a half hour, but I told her I could not afford the book at that price and she told me I could pay in installments. Never did though.

Someone here had posted a link to her book ordering site, and it said to reply with your name and number and Denise will personally call you to take your order or something like that. I think a few people on the Org filled out the form. I did out of curiosity to see what would happen.

My husband and I were getting ready to go the store and she called my cell phone (the number I gave). It was a terrible connection, but I stood in one place in my house to keep the reception that I did have and talked to her for a little bit. She talked about her book, and how she was changing the name from "Blame It on Vanity" to "The Black Box." I forget why she was changing it.

She said it cost so much because it was going to be two books in one One was her story, the other was some poems or something she was writing. I really can't remember.

She also said that the price was so high because she was self publishing.

She started to talk about her health problems, and I told her about mine (cancer), and she wanted to pray with me.

It was a really nice conversation. She gave me her number and told me to call her anytime. I never did though. It just felt weird. Plus, I've lost her number since then.

She was very nice, but kind of weird too. I mean, she was telling me some intimate stuff about her health.

Funny thing...when I finally hung up and got in the car where my husband was waiting for me, I said, "Sorry...I could not get Vanity off the phone!"
