I wonder who they would choose to play "Morris E.Day"? :>)

I think Mya would be a good choice to play Susan as she can act, sing, dance and has a similar look. Maybe when the movie is shown, Warner Brothers will release the Vanity 6 album on CD. Really hope so, cos I wanna buy it!

What about "Amerie" playing Susan's role? I don't think Nicole from the Pussycat Dolls would take a backseat role. She could play Vanity though.

In addtion, I don't see how Ethel Waters, Billie Holiday, Etta James or Tina Turner have anything in common with Vanity Six or what they were doing in the 80's. laurarichardson said it pretty nicely. I'm not saying they were the first to have sexual lyrics or dress in a revealing way, but they were outrageous for their time. They gained publicity that way, and there's no doubt they had an influence on some female acts that came after them. It's no coincidence that Beyonce, Britney Spears, Amerie, Lil' Kim and others have sampled or even performed parts of "Nasty Girl". And Cole Porter writing songs about hookers wasn't outrageous? Etta James rubbing her titties singing about her love man (of the moment) onstage in the 60's 70's and 80's wasn't outrageous? Bessie Smith singing about going on her knees to get a big piece of meat and some cream wasn't outrageous? You all are funny. I don't know what's in your music libraries, but maybe do a lil' research before we rush to give V6 the badge of end all be all outrageousness. You'd be surprised what you can find out there in the titilating anals of music history Take note, I'm not saying V6 didn 't influence acts that came after them (everything in the arts is cyclical so who hasn't influenced another up and coming artist at one point?). I'm just saying the sex schtick was not that outrageous nor particularly original...given that it had been done many times before that the artists I previously mentioned (and those added by 2elijah, an a host of others

Some of you in this thread are jumping on me for no reason. All I did was link a video to the girl playing Vanity in the movie I can't believe how derailed this thread has become. and Vanity 6 was outrageous-the 80's were all about image, and their appearance/lyrics got them attention. These days, it's common to see girls dressed that way and to sing those kinds of songs. Just because some others in the past were outrageous before Vanity 6, that doesn't mean it was a common thing. If it wasn't a big deal, people wouldn't have written articles about the on-stage antics of Prince's female band. That's all I said. I'm not here to argue who came first, who had dirty lyrics before them etc...I'm just saying obviously Vanity 6 left an influence or else no one would have wanted to make a movie about them. Now please people can we just talk about Krystal Rivera and maybe who else might play in the movie? geez...

Beyond that, watching that child speak on camera was absolutely painful for my ears. She doesn't exactly strike me as a student from The Actor's Studio and I'm wondering how in the Lawd did someone come to a decision to let her carry a movie? I'm really trying to picture some suit in their office going over the casting and saying, yes, we're going to put our money on that one Another cosign! Why must anyone "famous" play Brenda or Susan. I mean, the girl playing Vanity isn't.
Also, I don't even think that Vanity 6's story is movie material worthy. Why not just do a movie on Denise Matthews post Prince. She is a recovering drug addict and she did do plenty of things after separating from Prince. Prince wouldn't even have to be in the movie. Or simply "The Denise Matthews Story" and all-inclusive, instead of focusing primarily on one aspect of her life. You guys know what I'm talking about...like Natalie Cole, Fantasia, or Madonna's television biopics. And it doesn't regular excellent acting skills to play "high".

They shouldn't call it a Vanity 6 film. It should be a film representative of Vanity 6 but not directly about them. Kind of like Dreamgirls was loosely based on The Supremes. It should be a generic movie about a sexy girl group in the 80s who just happen to resemble Vanity 6.

I doubt this film will be highly anticipated by more than a handful of people and I seriously doubt they have the budget to pay for A-list talent. It may help fill Ms. Rivera's resume if it happens, but that's about it. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Oh heck yeah!!! Pink would be a dead ringer as Brenda. I so love the idea of Ashanti as Susan as well. “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara
