Apollonia's Solo Album

I've actually had this album for about 3 years but never really listened to it until yesterday and I like it. I guess I didn't take to it the first time around because it wasn't as edgy as Apollonia 6 which is a masterpiece imo! Her solo debut is pretty good though. I see it as more like Dance/Pop kinda Paula Abdul/Janet Jackson. How do you guys rate this album? I like Since I feel for you, Am I growing on you? and Mismatch is the shit!! I'm still getting to know the songs so hopefully it will grow on me more.

I like her solo album too. Sure it's mindless dance/pop but it's fun. My faves are "Since I Fell For You", "Syncronize" and "Mismatch".

I really like her album. It's as good as Vanity's Skin on Skin album. My fave is In Your Eyes.

Always dug this album alot. People on here contantly talk about Vanity's solo work but forget Apollonia's one album.

I still often play "Every beat of my heart". This track and a few others have a Gloria Estefan vibe that I dig alot. The whole album is very well produced, meaning the album couldn't of come cheap. Its slickly produced thanks mainly to then popular producer Bobby Sandstorm and inparticular, Steve Barri and Tony Peluso, who not only produced a few tracks but mixed most of them aswell. When you see those 2 names on 80's pop records, you know that it will at least sound great and be mixed to a high standard aswell. Very slick.

Some great songs on it if you like very 80's pop with a slightly poppy latin vibe. Not a brilliant album, but I love "every beat of my heart" and really like a few others on there aswell. A pleasant surprise when I first heard it years ago, and I still like it alot today. Fans of mid 80's pop should definately enjoy it.

I love "Since I Fell For You" (which I heard for the first time ever when I watched Back to Back, a film from the late 80s she starred in). I also love "In Your Eyes," "Synchronize" (a really good pop tune), and "Help Wanted."

I bought Apollonia's album on ebay back in 2003 out of curiosity of what it sounded like. Personally, I was not impressed. Since I Fell For You was OK, but the rest of the tracks are very plain and all sound the same. I'm not surprised her music career ended after that mess.

I agree, her solo album was weak.A bunch of undistingushed dance tracks that sounds like everything else on the radio in the late 80s.

It is less than weak - it is laughable. More than any other protege, her musical career was 100% dependent on Prince. (ie. No Prince = no music career.). At least Vanity managed a couple of decent albums after leaving Prince.

Vanity's solo albums are OK aswell, but hardly worth putting them miles above Apollonia's solo album though. I guess Apple's album is far more polished then Vanity's 2 albums (particually her first), and belongs more in the cookie cutter late 80's pop era, which is why some of the hate I guess. So, if you hate late 80's slighty latin based pop, you ain't gonna like her album much. Simple as.

Exactly. Apollonia's album was so bad they didn't even let her make a second one. Don't even get me started on that HORRIBLE "Since I Fell For You" video. At least Vanity actually had some good songs and they didn't all sound the same. I still love the "Skin on Skin" album and the artwork where she looks like a 1940's movie star. Same with the "Under the Influence" video. Sexy song and video. Apollonia was nothing without Prince.

I remember in the late 80s,Apollonia did an interview talking about all of her upcoming projects, and she revealed that Prince once told her "You'll never make it without me" lol

That depends on what your idea of "making it" is. She may not be a world-famous star, but she still has a lot of fans and she runs her own production company.

Whatever success Vanity's 2 albums may have had had something to do with Prince whether or not she was with him at the time. Nobody, realistically, ever thought or thinks of Vanity without thinking of Prince.
