Mayte, child of the sun...?

So what do you all think? Good, bad, wondeful?

There are only 3 songs I like on it. Prince should have let her be more creative and use some of her ideas in the music.

It's not great. Love's No Fun is really the only four-star track.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

This thread is very funny.
I would love to actually hear the album.
What's funny about the thread is that all the orgers say that there are only a couple of good songs, but they disagree on what songs the good ones are.

That is why I love the org. The people who log on are a very diverse bunch to say the least. popcorn

Yes, but Love's no fun was not new and Elisa Fiorillo's version was OK.

All in all, it's pretty awful. Mayte has a weak voice, and the songs fall into the same mold Prince has forced all of his proteges into: the naive pseudo-spiritual romantic who is discovering her sexuality. A forgettable collection of routine Prince songs except much, much worse than anything on Prince's own albums.

SoulAlive

I only like a few songs on it...

In Your Gracious Name
Ain't No Place Like You

The rest of it wasn't too interesting, from what I remember (haven't played this album in years).

I love the Mayte album. I really started to appreciate it more lately than before. My favorite tracks are:

In Your Gracious Name
If I Love U 2night
Ain't No Place Like U
Love's No Fun
If I Love U 2night
The Most Beautiful Boy In The World love2
batting eyes ACRYLIC batting eyes
I do nothing professionally.
I only do things for fun.

What ideas did Mayte have? And would they be better than Prince's?

These days I'd say yes. But I'd say yes about just about anyone...lol. The problem i you never know cause he was such a control freak. Even when his ideas were not the best. Why I wish he'd kept people around he trusted artistically.

Apparently it says in Possessed, she only did it to please Prince and when you listen to it, all of the songs seem to praise Prince. Theres as much geniune emotion behind this as there was in Tina Turner having to sing crap like "Contact High" for Ike. I wouldn't be surprised if Mayte has forgotten all about it now.

You just compromised your last chance at credibility with that one. It is laughable. lol

No she hasnt because I am sure she is still spending the money. Anyone reading POssessed and believing it is leaving something to be desired intellectually.

What money, the album was a colossal flop that missed the charts.

It was just a puppet project for Prince, & i don't think Mayte was really involved in this anyway...
